Hi, my name is Karen and my boy is Jack. He's just coming up to his 2nd birthday on 5th October and we have had him since he was 3 months old, after we lost our old boy Alex. I have been doing 'gundoggery' type training (regular classes and 1 2 1s) with him for the last 18 months and although it's been really hard at times, we are finally getting there! Jack is a bright boy with a fantastic working pedigree, unfortunately it's the handler who has let him down - it's been a steep learning curve for me Luckily our trainer has had great faith in us and must have seen a huge improvement as he's asked if we would like to attend an informal shoot this winter, probably not until November/December. At least that gives us a bit more training time which means that (hopefully) we won't embarrass ourselves. Anyway just wanted to say hello and what a great forum, especially with all the gundog training info. I'm sure I'll make good use of it. Karen and Jack
Re: Hello from Lancashire Hello Karen, and welcome to the forum. Lovely to hear you are enjoying the gundog training and I think once you will start to work Jack you will be totally hooked. ;D
Re: Hello from Lancashire Hi Karen, welcome ! So glad you're enjoying the gundog training. We're kind of similar to you.....first time dog here, he's 2 1/2 now and I'm the only one holding us back I've just started introducing Riley to feather and I hope to get to a shoot or two before the season is over too! Looking forward to hearing how you get on ;D
Re: Hello from Lancashire Hi Karen, welcome to you and Jack! Afraid we are not gun-dog material but keep trying! Loads of tips from the gun-doggy type on here though - hope you have a great time on the shoot in due course 8) Jac and Lilly (3 year old black lab (non) retriever) ;D

Re: Hello from Lancashire Hello, welcome from me and Charlie 7 months chocolate boy. Neither of us are gundoggy types at all, but we're fab at fetch and find it, we've just started having some gundog training lessons, which we've really enjoyed.
Re: Hello from Lancashire Thanks all for your very warm welcomes. Heidrun - it's too late, I'm hooked already ;D Barbara - glad I'm not the only one with handling issues!! Karen and Jack
Re: Hello from Lancashire Hi Karen from another Karen! Welcome to the forum, and looking forward to hearing about your adventures with Jack, especially since our Poppy is another gundoggery retrievaholic!
Re: Hello from Lancashire Hi Karen, I have a Lab who will be two in January and we have been doing gundog training during the summer. Most trainers are working their dogs now so no lessons at the moment, which I miss. What exercises have you been doing? Welcome to the forum. Stacia

Re: Hello from Lancashire Hi there, I have Dexter a yellow lab 12 months old ....our first dog and working line but a pet so I try and support his heritage as much as I can with the help of this lovely forum. Best wishes Angela
Re: Hello from Lancashire Thanks again everyone for your warm welcomes. Stacia - we are working on the stop whistle at the moment and delivering to hand (he's not so keen on giving it up when it's just the two of us : - much better in class!). Karen - Jack is our 3rd lab and our first retreivaholic - can't believe just how much he loves it (and me too of course). I did general obedience training with both of the others (village hall type classes) and although we enjoyed it it was never as much fun as the gundoggy thing. I'm sure I'll be using the forum loads to help with our training. Karen
