Hi, just thought I'd say hello as joined the forum today. I have an 11year old black lab, well she'll be 12 in 29 days & she's called Molly. We've also just got a chocolate lab puppy who was 8 weeks old yesterday and she's called Macey. She's been with us a week now & so far she's quite a good little thing but she will keep jumping up at Molly who then barks. Just keeping fingers crossed they do get on eventually!

Looking forward to reading all the info on here.

    Bye for now ;)

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

i have an almost year old fox red girl and a 5-7 year old crossbreed thing.

That is normal puppy behaviour, when our girl was first introduced to the crossbreed thingy she done that same, it took them about a month to settle together, the barking is just telling her off, she will learn eventually learn her boundaries as to what she can and can't get away with from your older dog.

Hope you enjoy the forum :)

Warm welcome from me and meg my yellow lab who's 14. This is a lovely forum, full of friendly folk and definitely the place to come for advice or just general chit chat about our furries. I've never had 2 dogs together so can't really offer much advice although we did have a cat and dog and they got on famously.

Hi Molly and Macie's mum! It is interesting that you have a pup and an older dog. I will be having a pup with two old cats. (And one young one) - it will be nice to see how they get along. Does your pup sleep with your older dog?

Welcome to the forum from me and my fox red girl Penny who is almost 18months old now.

The older dog barking at your pup is normal - the pup needs to learn her place, and learn some manners so that is all your older dog is doing. It might look a bit ferocious at times but she shouldn't hurt her.

Don't hesitate to tell on here if you need some advice!

Hi Jane, they both sleep in the kitchen but our pup has a cage with a pen around it so we can leave the cage door open at all times. Especially good at night so she can have a wander but she can't torment our older dog.

We had an episode this evening when my back was turned & they were both out in the kitchen. Macey had been jumping up at Molly & usually Molly just barks but all of a sudden I heard a squeal & Macey ran off, tail between legs. Think she may have nipped Molly & Molly had had enough so retaliated. Hopefully Macey will learn from this!

Hi there and welcome This is a fab site, I am sure you will love it. I have a 9 year old malamute and a new pup. She is the typical lab pup and he is a gentle old man. We had early on a few barks from him and she yelped so much I thought she had lost a limb !! but not a scratch on her and she is totally adoring of him. I had to be really brave and let them get on with it. It took about 2 weeks. I do still give him his own space but generally they are inseparable and he has taught her a lot. Have fun and welcome to the 5am walking around the garden in your PJ's gang ;) Emma and Meg (and Jasper).

Hello and welcome to the Forum....we are first time single dog owners ,Dexter is our yellow boy and now 20 months.
Everyone ,including me is always keen to see photos ;D but they can be a bit tricky to post until you understand the process.if you want to pop some on and have any difficulties have a look in the technical section...... I'm off there now myself probably because I use flickr but want to open a photobucket account so I can help, out when folks get stuck!
Best wishes,I'm sure your 2 will become firm friends

Hello and welcome! I had an elderly black lab when I got my new puppy (now two years old). There were a few problems at first - he was incredibly patient and long-suffering with her, and I had to protect him from her needle teeth and endless bullying. But after a couple of months they became great friends.
