Will you be doing gundog training with him?
I've LOVE to do proper field trials with him, but I'm not keen on the killing part His daddy is a champ Field Trials dog. His mum is a bit more chilled, so I expect he'll be somewhere inbetween. We hope! James & stinky-cat-poo-breath
Yes, field trials are held on live game. But you can train towards gundog working tests. They involve dummies.

Re: Hello from Monty and me! Am I allowed to post videos? This was a few weeks ago and we were wondering what the Hell we'd gotten ourselves into!! https://youtu.be/b1l4yRJTzRU
Re: Hello from Monty and me! Welcome ;D He seems quite quiet to me from the video Just practicing his quartering and hunting for when he is a big boy and knows what he is doing. He has a good sire.
Re: Hello from Monty and me! Hi and welcome from me and Harley - 19 month old fox red lab Love the photos, he is so cute
Re: Hello from Monty and me! A big welcome from me and Flora another ESS, to you and you beautiful dog. Mine has a fair bit of Edgegrove in her ancestry too and she is a fabulous , incredibly affectionate and highly intelligent dog ...which means she's very good at outwitting us in all sorts of ways! The last three and a half years have been exhausting and but also great fun and very rewarding but there were plenty of times when I wondered what on earth I had done....I could have had another lab for starters! The going got particularly tough when she hit adolescence at about 9 months and we are still getting quite a lot of teenage moments but she is both fun and funny (and knows it) so you are going to have such a great time as Monty grows up Stinky cat poo breath...not a problem..Flora's food of choice and perfume to roll in was fox poo ...but she still looks hopefully in the cat litter tray even now...oh joy! The most important thing I've learned along the way on my ESS roller coaster ride....always keep him close so he never goes off on independent, self rewarding hunting expeditions but teach him to hunt side to side in front of you for quite short periods, finding hidden toys etc , this will wear him out surprisingly quickly and make him think only you provide the best things in his life. Anyway I've got puppy envy after seeing those lovely photos and will look forward to hearing of your adventures with Monty.
Re: Hello from Monty and me! Welcome from Me, Riley and Obi spaniel (not a springer though a Clumber) I'm finding having a spaniel a lot of fun but quite a departure from my chilled out lab ;D

Is mum also trialling bred?
Not to the same extent, but she does have a few in her pedigree. Since he's predominantly a pet, we're hoping he has the intelligence and trainability of Moss (sire) and the calmness of the bitch, Lucy (Blackberry of Whooperhill).
Re: Hello from Monty and me! Which way did the baddies go, Monty? "That way, that way!!" A very wind day at the beach!
