Hello from Germany, from Poppy and me! My daughter is moving from Boston to New York City this weekend...
Thank you, Granca, Dexter, MaccieD, and Karen. You have all been so kind and supportive. I am looking forward to reading thru this forum and meeting as many as possible. Our Boy, Raphael, has had his fourth seizure in about one year. The first was @feb14,2015, and Not again till june 14, 2015, then sept 25,2015, and the fourth on november 23, 2015 and the fifth on january 29, 2016. So , my mistake, bit 5 seizures in a year. They last about 2-3 minutes. I am so concerned that these seizures will go into a status epilecticus. I am praying many hours each day for all animals , and I pray all will be well. Thanks again, I hope to read the tech part of how to post photos. I have never had much lick with flicker, and I am using my iphone 6s for everything, my laptop got too old. raf108
Hello again . When my little dog started to have seizures , our Vet recommended a Watch and Wait period . We kept a diary , noting every seizure and how she was affected . My girl was having at least one per day and so she was put onto medication, phenobarbital which I understand is the universal drug of choice for Vets . Please don't let scare mongerers worry you about this drug , there are sadly always those who will err to the black, but for most dogs, my own included, it is a wonder drug . She needed blood work every few months to check on her liver and to ensure that it was a therapeutic dose but she coped very well indeed . My girl suffered from what are called partial seizures which are when just part of the body is affected , with her it was her legs and one side of her head . She very occasionally had little breakthrough seizures but they were few and far between, she lived happily and as a normal dog . It is a worry I agree, but thankfully it worried us far more than it worries the dog who thankfully is unaware of what is happening . I currently have a little rescue terrier as well as my Labrador , and to my horror, she started to have small seizures, but they are attributed to inflammatory brain issues , she also takes medications every day and is doing well , there is always light at the end of the tunnel x
Thank You Kateincornwall, Your experience with the meds are a panacea to my worrying mind. We have been keeping a journal. Lol, we have had over 16 dogs in the last 30 years or so, and we have always kept a journal or LOL A DOODY BOOK. every time they go out to do #1 or #2 , it is noted by time and date. So we can easily go back to check anything, and not have to rely on memory alone, thank God. I believe our vet told us to wait and see , and let him know if the seizures are getting to one month or less apart. We are praying they do not get that close to need med, but if they do, we will certainly use the meds. Where in the forum is it appropriate to talk about testicular cancer and altering. We have some concerns since last week when he went to the vet for his intedigital cysts , when the vet noticed one testicle a bit smaller than the other. She said just to keep an eye on it. Easier said than done, an English breed, lots more hair everywhere , compared to Beau, our last lab who was an american breed. Much more hyper!!! Last week he got his blood checked as well as thyroid. Thank God, everything was beautiful. So, please let me know where to post any other concerns we have. raf108
