I too have been lurking for a few weeks, admiring the great pix as well as the wealth of knowledge & experience on this board. We currently have Elvis, a large off-white 14-month rescue lab mix who looks quite labby - people always think he is one - and Bernie, a somewhat curmudgeonly 10-yr old JR terrier. In the fall, we're signed up to add a yellow lab pup to the mix. Elvis is a love in many ways, but has a hugely high prey drive & so we managed to totally mess up his recall last year when we visited our daughter & family in Colorado. He took off when we were hiking the Colorado Trail & at one point appeared proudly toting what I thought for a horrified moment was a child's severed arm, subsequently judged to be a bear cub foreleg - what owner can compete with that?! Talk about self rewards.... He became rather uncatchable.

Am now working through Total Recall sequences with hopes that this wonderfully logical approach will help us be able to navigate the abundant wildlife in our area at some point. One question on that: all is going well except the pip-pipping when he's asleep. He just zonks out & is sometimes quite groggy & unresponsive to the whistle, so I have to go through quite a little performance before he focuses.

One other question: which of the photo options might work for an IPad? I have so far failed due to the size of the file.

Looking forward to being a member! And enjoying the Happy Puppy book in anticipation.

Welcome to you, Elvis and Bernie.

A bear cub foreleg - that's something we don't often see in the UK! Our Holly sometimes finds rotting animal parts in the woods and is very reluctant to surrender them. Feigning indifference seems to work as she eventually gets bored with them, but I'd also welcome some advice on this problem.

I tend to upload pictures using Flickr from my PC. Its easy to cut and paste the BBcode straight into a reply. I recall that Flickr for Ipad was announced last fall but I haven't played with it yet. That might give a simple way to include pictures in your posts.

Hi and welcome! I'd say that Elvis is a front runner in the 'illegal retrieves' stakes at this point :)

On an iPad I use Flickstakr to upload photos from my photo library, then copy the BBCode from Flickstakr into posts. :)

Thanks, I'll try Flickr for IPad next time I'm somewhere with decent Internet connectivity; it's terrible at our little farm.

Hi and welcome from me and my little tribe :)
We have the very odd bear here, but we never see them, just sometimes their spoil. A couple of years ago I saw a bear footprint next to a deer's foreleg on a very nearby path. That was a bit of a surprise! All the bears are tagged and tracked, though, and when they wander too close to civilisation, they're removed back to somewhere more suitable, so I'm not too worried, despite the fact this one obviously slipped through the net! I'm more concerned about the wild boar when they have young.

So far, they've only "caught" a dead sparrow and a very mushy rodent of some description. But they're still young so have plenty of time yet to disgust me :)

Welcome to the forum from me and Juno in rural France. I sympathise with the poor internet connectivity. Mobile phones are pretty useless in much of the house so we rely upon satellite for our internet connection and another satellite for TV (in English).

I'm lucky that Juno has never brought anything too disgusting to me, she's always favoured poo....... ::)

Welcome to the forum, and RESPECT Elvis regarding the bear cub foreleg... I can't touch that, the closest was a wild boar skull.

Welcome to you and Elvis :)

I can hardly compete with dead hares and deer never mind bears! Fortunately not many of them in rural Scotland. Or any other part of Scotland for that matter! :D

Hello and welcome from me an Lilly who is coming up for 5.
Lilly's best challenge would have been swiping a baby moorhen out of the air whilst taking flight.
We can all aspire to Elvis's dizzy heights.
