Hi I'm new to the forum. Simba my yellow labrador is gonna turn 1 next month. This is my first lab and want to know if shedding is normal? I can't leaveSimba inside the house due to this. He leaves a trail behind when he walks in the house. Please advise. Thanks in advance
Yes, many Labs shed pretty much continuously though others have a spring and autumn moult. Regular grooming and a good vacuum cleaner are the solutions - it seems a bit sad not to let your dog indoors just because of hair. My last dog (chocolate Lab) loved being groomed with a Zoom Groom tool (a bit like a rubber curry-comb) and just as well as he used to shed a lot. Molly (cross) sheds less but is just starting the spring moult. She won't tolerate the zoom groom so I use a comb.
Hi @Seema and welcome to the forum. Lots of dogs shed - not sure if labradors are worse than other breeds - so accepting its going to happen and managing it as best you can is the plan. I would second Joy's advice and encourage plenty of brushing. I like the Zoom Groom as well, its really good at getting the dead hair out of the dog's coat, reducing sweeping and hoovering. There is also the "Furminator" but you got to be careful you don't overuse it and strip out too much of the dog's coat. Where abouts do you live?
Welcome @Seema from Hattie 9 years and our rescue boy Charlie 6 years. Agree totally with the advice given. You can't avoid the hair but keeping up with grooming and hoovering help a lot. Although my dogs don't moult a lot so I am lucky A shame not to enjoy your dogs company inside because of a few hairs x
Hi Seema and welcome to the forum. I don't actually brush my two adults very often anymore, because it seems to make my girl's skin dry, so I only do it when they are going through their seasonal moults. The rest of the time, we just hoover daily. We have a cordless vacuum which is really handy for whizzing round the house in no time - far more convenient than a regular vacuum, and it's designed to pick up animal hair. I agree that it's not a reason to keep your dog out of the house.
Hello & welcome Seema & Simba. I just find myself vacuuming often, or sitting among the hairs. It's not the worst thing in the world.
Hello and welcome. That sort of shedding is normal though it can be a little scary for a first time Lab parent. You'll need to groom him a little more consistently and clean up around the house more often. Also learning
