We are due to pick up our Mattand x Lembas yellow boy on the 8th December and look forward to drawing on the experience and contributing to the Forum.

He's not our first Lab having two rescue dogs then a pup from the Lembas line in 2004 who we recently said goodbye to in September.

No doubt I'll be asking all kinds of questions about equipment, food and training initially as its clear that thinking has moved on since we last had a pup (kibble vs Weetabix/milk, harness vs collar, off lead vs on-lead, etc.) so please bear with us. I have to say Pippa's Lab Handbook and the Puppy Guide are very useful to get the three of us in the house on the same page in terms of approach and expectations.

    Regards

    Dave

Hi, and welcome to you all from me and my black lab, Cassie, who is now 18 months. We are a couple of counties to the west of you, in Herefordshire.
Yes the world of puppies has moved on! This forum and Pippa's books are wonderful sources of information. Look forward to hearing all about him when he arrives.

Sure have, he's "Odin" or Odi for short. Our son had his hand in on that one. Originally the plan was Thor for the yellow lab and when we get the next black one call him Loki. I guess you can see the Super Hero theme here.

Our last boy was Homer, not named after the Greek philosopher...

Thanks all, its been a while since we were able to walk Homer our previous Lab as he never really recovered from a slipped disc three years ago even though the surgery was a success. It got him back up on his feet but St Nick's Park and the Chesterton Windmill were too much for him.

Odin was born on the 13th October and we will be picking him up on the 8th December. Christmas will be interesting and I'm looking forward to carrying him around town for socialisation. Come mid-January once he's had his final vaccinations we'd be happy to catch up.
