Someone just mentioned it where I had been posting. I didn't check in here, but once I joined the Forum, I just began posting. I'm Charron (screen name mmomom) and found this site very helpful before we picked up our little girl Maui, a 10 week old Black Lab. Two weeks ago today, we drove from NW Georgia to Indiana to pick her up. We spent the first night at a Pet Friendly Hotel in Louisville, KY arriving back home late that Saturday night. So, we've had Maui 2 weeks tomorrow!

We lost our beloved Black Lab Maggie back in March at almost 13 years of age. She was without a doubt the best dog ever! We loved her so and still do and still miss her, always will! However, I couldn't imagine life without a dog and was just lucky to find this small, family hobby type breeder who actually lost one of her beloved dogs the very day before we had to put our Mags down. There was an instant connection and her other Lab BB, had 11 puppies beginning on Easter Sunday! Imagine, 11 puppies and they not only all survived, but are all healthy!

We're doing well. Maui is a very sweet girl. Yesterday we had a full day with no accidents in the house and she even let me know a few times when she needed to go out. She sleeps pretty much through the night, although I'd love for her to go a little longer!! We go in about 10-11:00 and she doesn't have to go out (she wakes me) till around 5-6:00 a.m. We're working on crate training and yesterday she did very well staying in there happily for about 45 minutes during the day. Of course my goal is to have her in there for 2-3 hours happily so that we can go out once in a while. I don't let her out right away if she cries, but wait till she stops and then tell her she's a good girl.

She has unbelievable bursts of energy and does laps all around the house or outside till she tires herself out for a long nap! We have a pool and it was our 'Maggie's Pool' ... she just let others use it, LOL!! We've introduced Maui a few times ... she's a little timid, but okay. We only have my husband hold her for a short minute or two and when he lets go, she swims like crazy to the edge! The other morning she was doing laps outside burning up energy and fell in twice!! It was just her hind legs, but she was like .... 'oh ... help me out'!! Really funny! She's been meeting people and not as timid as she was at first ... and she had a blast with my son's two dogs last weekend. All in all, I think she's settling in very well.

I need to go out in a little bit, but plan to read the other posts of people introducing themselves later today, but for now this is who we are! :)

Hi, it's great that you found the introductions page, even after posting as it's lovely to read more about you, your family and Maui. She sounds like a pretty normal Labrador puppy with her energy and zooming around the house. Have you had the opportunity to take Maui out and about? She's not old enough yet to walk out on the ground but it's good to introduce her to the big wide world with all the different noises and sounds. I know it means carrying her but it is really good of you can sit outside a supermarket for her to see people, or somewhere where you can a coffee with her on your lap. Ooh, puppies are so exciting! Look forward to seeing some photos and hearing more of Maui's adventures as she grows :)

Hi and welcome! :) Sounds like everything is going really well with Maui. I'm sure she's gorgeous.

I'm guessing that Maui can only get to the pool area through a fence and under supervision...?

I'm sure you miss Mags terribly. It's lovely that you've got Maui who can make sure you still have plenty of Labrador cuddles in your life :)

Hi and Thank you Rachael! Yes, Maui doesn't go out without me. The whole backyard is fenced in and she has her grassed in 'potty area'. We do miss Maggie ... think we always will. She was a wonderful dog, but I think she would approve of Miss Maui!

Hello again Rosemary! We've not exactly done the shopping part yet, but of course the very first night we were at that hotel and she was a 'puppy magnet'!! LOL! She was VERY timid then, but is so much better now, especially with so many people coming to the house to meet her in the last two weeks. She was very good when I brought her to the Vet and so many techs, etc. were all over her ... it's a great place. I did just come back from a bit of socialization with her though. The other night our neighbor had an emergency with his dog and my husband drove them to a vet up the street. While there, a very sweet Tech who was so good to our Maggie for years and has just recently changed her location to that vet office (same vet, different location) asked if I would please bring Maui up, so I did. Of course I still had to be holding her and it's a very busy place, so many of the girls walking by were making quite a bit of her. It was good because she was definitely frightened when we walked in .... like I said, a much larger location than where I go. We had to wait for a while for her to meet that person, so we spent some time there and by the end of the visit that tail was going like crazy every time someone walked by and she was enjoying every minute of it! :)

Hi Charron, I've seen you around the other parts of the forum, but it's always nice to have a proper introduction and yours is fabulous! I really hope you stick around and get really involved with the group - I've only been here a relatively short time and have learnt loads from being here. And the support you get when the going gets tough is fantastic! We all have our trying moments, and we all have our "proud doggy parent" moments, and we're all here to listen, to commiserate and to cheer on for all of those. And we never get bored of puppy photos :)

Hi and Thanx Naya and snowbunny! Glad you don't get bored with pictures .... 'someone' had decided it's much more fun on the other side of the blocked off kitchen and livingroom! :)

Hehe, reminds me of my Willow when we had a board up to stop her leaving the living room. Everything on the other side was SO much more interesting!
