I have an 8 yr old chocolate lab that has been seizuring once a week for the last month. The vet is now suggesting phenobarbital as the currently prescribed medication is not slowing them down. I'm terrified to put him on phenobarbital as I've read a lot of dogs having issues with sedation, behavior change and not being able to walk for the first couple of weeks as they are on the new med. Please provide suggestion if you've experienced these side effects, it would be greatly appreciated.
