Hi, I'm Paula, and I've just adopted a Lab x. He's called Flynn, and is 17 months old, and we are his 3rd home already in his short life so far. I live in Scotland, with my Hubby Stuart, and have previously had 2 Cavalier Spaniels, one of which we had to put to sleep this year. We still have Misty, a nine year old female, who is trying to show Flynn the ropes.

I have read a lot of the articles on the main site, and found them to be a great help so far. As far as we can tell Flynn is just a typical high energy Lab pup, that needs routine, lots of exercise and training. We've had him a week now, and he's a real sweetheart. He's had no training apart from being house trained, but we're working on the basic's and he seems a fast learner. He was quite unsettled and constantly wanting to play, and started stealing objects in an attempt to get attention, but this weekend he's been more settled and has been lying down after playing and chilling for a while. I'm hoping he's getting our routine and realising he's found his forever home now.

Hi Paula ,a very warm welcome to the Labrador Site and Forum. We have Dexter ,our yello boy who is nearly 3. We live in Dubai but we imported him from a breeder in Scotland.
Poor Flynn,he sounds like he's had a very disruptive start to his life.It sounds like he is finding his feet with you though, such early days, you have got a lot to learn about each other.
Such a lucky boy to have found himself with you now,Good luck with settling him in,let us know how you are all doing x

Hi Paula and welcome! Poor Flynn has not had the best start in life, but it sounds like he has landed on all 4 paws now :)
Hope he settles well and soon learns to relax and trust you.
We are in Angus - where in Scotland are you?

Hello, and a very warm welcome from me and my hooligan Choccie boy of 2 and bit years.

Well done on giving a much needed loving home to Flynn and I hope he soon settles in. My boy was still a horror at 17 months (he still is at times) and he had lots of training! Well, what I could manage, anyway.

    Best of luck with it.

Hello from 21 month old Molly and me, down South in Oxfordshire.

Sounds like you getting on with Flynn's training straight away. Beats me why people expect dogs to know how to behave if we don't teach them.

Seventeen months is a very difficult time, I remember it well (shudder) but you should be on the way up soon.

I don't think he is picking up (I don't like the word stealing:)) things not to attract attention but because that is what Labradors do, they retrieve! Never chase after him when he does that or he will treat it as a game. Offer something else and get him to give it to you in your hand. Later on you can have lots of fun and interest with him retrieving. Welcome by the way and well done for adopting him, it sounds as if he is going to have a lovely home with you.

By attention, I mean it's already been enforced in one of his previous homes that this is a game. He is looking to be chased when he picks things up, which we are not doing. I've just removed everything from his reach, as he was doing this with ornaments as well, until we get further into his training :)
