Hi, I'm Lucy and I've been reading all the helpful advice in the forums for the past couple of months. Oscar is 5 months old now and we've found the advice here and in the happy puppy book invaluable. He may not look like a Labrador (with a spaniel mum and poodle dad that would be tricky...!) but his love of food and people definitely reminds me of the Labrador I grew up with. I'll try to post a picture of him, but I'm struggling to find the right code on the Flickr app Anyway, thank you for the wonderful forum - I have been trying to put the puppy advice offered into practice and I've loved reading about gypsy and twiglet.... I shall post my request for puppy behaviour help later... Thank you for letting me join!
I think the term is "cockapoo" but i think Oscar would prefer your descriptions He was super this morning - he came charging back to me, at full pelt, away from 3 dogs that he was going to play with. The happy puppy book is so fabulous - I'd never have had a clue how to train recall without it.
You're in good company here with the Happy Puppy Handbook, one of my best investments while waiting for Juno to arrive
Ah, a cocker spaniel cross, then. You just said spaniel before, so I wasn't sure what variety it was. I think I'd still go with "spandle" It sounds like your training is going well, congratulations on the recall! Don't be surprised if the recall suddenly falters over the next few months; I was convinced I had the best recall in the world, but then the teenage phase hit and it all fell apart. The folks of the forum pointed out that I had had a "puppy recall" and now needed to proof it against all the distractions of the environment, which hadn't changed to me, but were much more stimulating to my dogs now they had hit adolescence. So we did a lot of work on making me the most exciting thing in their world and it is paying off now - in most scenarios, anyway. Keep us updated with your progress. It's always nice to hear about other breeds of dogs
A friend suggested "cocka-doodle-doo" which suits as he's currently annoying my bantams. But I think "spoodle" is more manly... Cockapoo is not my favourite description of him and sometimes people can be a bit negative about it... It's safer to say he's a cross breed
He's cool that's what he is. I've met several cocker x poodles now and they've all been great little dogs with bundles of character
He's lovely! A labrador in disguise . My work colleague has a cockerpoo, she is a thingy dog. Can't remember the word and yet it's on the tip of my tongue! Works with unwell folk. She has the softest coat; is Oscar's lovely and soft?
Hello there! I've missed saying hi...whizzing through posts the very lovely puppy pic of Oscar popped up... Welcome to the Forum, you've got off to a great start finding the Labrador Site and The Happy Puppy handbook. Best wishes Angela and Dexter ,our yellow 3 year old x
Hi there....Oscar is a cutie no matter what you call him! Welcome here from me and my nearly-3 yr old LabX Simba....
Thanks for all the kind hellos - I've been camping at a little festival on Dartmoor for the weekend and Oscar has had his first nights away with my parents - glad to say we have all had fun! Oscar does have a lovely soft coat - I think at about 8mths we will see what his adult coat will be like. I'm hoping if Oscar becomes v calm (seems unlikely with current liveliness but I live in hope) that he might be able to be a PAT dog - my neighbours retriever does this and I'm guessing that's what your work colleagues dog does Jane.
Hi Lucy, welcome to you and Oscar! He looks like a little sweetie. Total Recall is fab! jac and Lilly
