Re: Hello Hi Pippa yes I do feed him pedigree but since dogs r carnivores they do need to eat meat ryt tats y I asked u abt it he is 3 months old now wat r d other things I need to take care abt Cooper nd wat r d signs do I have to see to knw if he is angry or frightened
Re: Hello Hi Teena, This is the advice I gave you on Page 4 of this thread. Pedigree is a complete food - that means it contains meat protein. Your puppy does not need any other nutrients. But, please check the packet to verify what I am saying, as it is just possible that the company are marketing a different product in India. That is a big question! In fact, it is whole book's worth. ;D Which aspects of puppy care have you not managed to find answers to, on the main website? Puppies that are frightened may runaway, hide, shake, cower, freeze, growl, or bite. Or any combination of those. Puppies don't really get 'angry'. They just want to have fun. Some puppies will guard their food or beds, but again, that is really through 'fear' rather than anger. Pippa
Re: Hello My puppy is definitely frightened but I Don knw hw nd y hw do I help him to overcome it and I want to knw abt grooming my puppy while feeding him should I make sure tat it's full or jus feed him less I knw why he is biting now as Pippa said it's teething nd as well as he is frightened. my sister throws keys for him to play he chases it barks growls nd plays sometimes we make him to jump up nd get d keys is this rong nd provoke him to become angry pls tell me wat toys to get him
Re: Hello We overcome fearfulness through socialisation. Here are the articles you need. It will take a little more time and effort now as Cooper is over three months old. Why you need to socialise your puppy How to socialise your puppy Labradors don't need much grooming. But it is a good way of getting your dog used to being handled. Just brush him all over once a day. Feed your Pedigree puppy food according to the guidelines on the packet. Don't feed according to appetite as most Labradors do not know when to stop. Give him more than the packet says if he looks a bit thin, less if he looks a bit fat. As we keep explaining Teena, biting is normal for puppies. They do it all the time. Biting through fear is usually a last resort in a puppy that is hiding or cowering and trying to avoid being touched. If Cooper is biting people he knows well, like you and your family, it is play, not fear. You can teach him to fetch the keys for you and give them back in exchange for food. It is a good game It might encourage him to snatch. I would throw things for him to fetch rather than tease him by holding them out of his reach He isn't angry, he is playing Kongs, balls and thick rope toys are all good. Probably the best thing you can do is teach him to fetch and find a ball. I hope that helps Pippa
Re: Hello Hi Pippa thank u for d help I'm training him to sit now wid treats nd it is paying if well an interesting thing happened tdy as I was training him I threw d ball for him to chase usually he chases it nd keeps it wid himself tdy after teaching him to sit I threw d ball but he neva chased it instead kept luking at my hand for more treats I tld him to fetch he wouldn't his attention was on my hands
Re: Hello you are moving forward teena ann.......now he has learned one command you will be able to teach him more,......just take your time well done
Re: Hello Thats ok, quite natural. He thinks you will give him a treat without him doing anything to earn it. The next step is to let him know what you want. So you need a word which tells him 'YES' that is what I want. Then you need to say this word every time he looks at his ball instead of at your hands, and as soon as you say the word, throw him a treat. He will then learn to 'look' at his ball in return for a treat. When he can do this (look at the ball to earn a treat) you can make him 'touch' the ball in exchange for a treat. This is called 'shaping' and it is a great game to play with a Labrador. Eventually you can shape him to pick up the ball and bring it back to you. Let us know how you get on with shaping him to look at his ball. Pippa
Re: Hello Hello there and welcome to the forums... Word of advice from someone that tormented every single person on these forums in paranoia about everything and anything that had to do with puppy raising. It all falls into place love, they told me and it did...Now with this, you need to relax and take him in whole heartedly enjoying this special time because before you know it that special period is gone and you have missed out on the best part about owning a dog from a baby. Thanks to everyone on the forums I now have an 8mth old yellow lab that is not only obedient to the best of his ability WITHOUT...I will repeat this because it's important WITHOUT too much fuss over training. They are naturally talented in every way. The only thing they seek is love and attention and if the first follows the latter, everything falls into place. McQueen did all these things you are concerned about and for months I tormented my special friends on here...(even though I know they love it secretly because they are all awsome) never having forseen the huge change he had over time. Yes, he jumped up for his food..now he knows to sit at a distance whilst I prepare and in fact ..will not move no matter how long it takes me to do so ..with a simple "sit" instruction (my 6 year old taught him mind you so I take no credit for this) At intervals I use the command "leave it to show him I'm watching " and wave towards the bowl "go get it" and voila ..food is gone in 2 chomps...Who woulda thought this "he will never" would become an "always does" in just a few seconds... Keep your chin up relax and pay more attention to the splendid humour these lovely people have on here about their own, then the "what if's, and why's" hehe... Missed you all !!! MCqueen ..L and G !
Re: Hello Lovely to hear from you Labrina And what good sensible advice - a case of the pupil becoming the teacher ;D - sharing experience is so valuable. And well done with your progress Teena Ann! Jac
Re: Hello Thank u Labrina nd jack nd Evry1 in this forum for ur valuable advice nd bearing wid me nd Cooper I'll keep updating his progress d one thing I wanna knw is hw long nd hw many times a day should I train him nd hw long should he be left outside I'll post a pic of him pls tell me if he luks lyk a 3 month old pup
Re: Hello Hi Pippa wen I try to ignore nd walk away frm him wen he bites he jus comes back nd nips at my clothes over nd over again sometimes I get bitten nd he growls wen I try to pull my clothes from his mouth is I try to distract him wid chew t Sticks nd bones but he is very determined to do wat he does hw to curb this nd hw do I keep him entertained
Re: Hello Hi Teena Ann Just keep doing what Pippa says over and over and over again.None of the actions she tells you to do will fix things by doing them once, you have to keep doing them and doing them and one day Cooper will stop.Sorry I can't tell you different but I am learning that teaching your dog anything takes time. You can do it. Be careful with sticks......it would be my advice not to give him them.its something my Mum has always told me and a few of the forum members have mentioned some nasty injuries they have encountered with sticks. Lots of toys are my advice and I guess it's hot where you live like it is with me ?so I give Dexter ice cubes to chase and I freeze some of his rubber toys and sometimes even little bits of food in plastic containers which makes a big block of ice and he plays with that.....if you can get the little chicken stock cubes and put them in the water to flavor.....Im sure Cooper would love that!
Re: Hello Sure Dexter will try ur method of giving him icecubes to play nd will get him a few more toys he is feeling bored nd starts to run around d house like a mad dog nd hurts himself hw do u manage to get him to stop barking
Re: Hello Teena Ann, I guess the beginning of sorting the barking problem is understanding why he is doing it....dogs bark and that's a fact as owners we have to live with but it sounds like you are finding it a problem.i haven't got enough experience or knowledge of dog behaviour to help you. However we are working on barking for a different reason so let me tell you what I'm doing and see if there is anything in it that could help you. Dexter doesn't bark a lot but sometimes he starts enjoying it for a little bit longer than is necessary .I have got visitors coming in November and they have a little boy with special needs who has very sensitive hearing so I am trying to teach Dexter that when we say Quiet! He must stop.the way I started doing it is after he has had a few barks ,I get ready to click and treat him when he naturally pauses .....me and my friend practiced this by ringing the door bell.....to create a bark....when he got it I started saying the word quiet .he has got quite good,we've been doing it for 2 weeks but still have a lot of practice( remember we all tell you that things take a lot of practice and time to train ; We haven't seen Cooper for a while, pop a picture up if you can x
Re: Hello Sure Dex I'm gonna pop one now glad u asked one more thing my puppy eats pedigree according to d pack instructions it says tat a 3 month old pup must be fed abt 175 to 425 grams is this for one meal or should I divide this 175grams for 4 meals
Re: Hello Hi Teena Ann, it definitely will not be 425 grams, my fully grown dogs only get 300 grams. Check the packet again just to make sure how much roughly and how often. How much have you been feeding Cooper so far? Helen x
Re: Hello it definitely says 175 to 425gms my question is should I divide 175 gms for 4 meals or should I give him 175 each serve help me
