Hello, I just wanted to introduce myself. It is very nice to be one of the first to join a new forum instead of feeling like the new girl at the local comprehensive! I have a beautiful chocolate lab called Molly, who is two in June and is the love of my life (don't tell the husband...). She is 'just' a pet and my first lab. She is really good and has been very forgiving of my inexperienced and inept attempts to train her. I found this forum through the Gundog Club which I joined because I really wanted to take her to gundog training. Unfortunately my husband lost his job around that time and although he now has another, we can't really afford it yet. One day, perhaps... I'm looking forward to seeing the site develop and chatting with other lab owners - it looks really good, thank you!
Re: Hello Hi there Mollysmum! Glad you found us, and welcome to the Labrador Site. Thank you for your kind comments, and look forward to hearing more about Molly Pippa
Re: Hello Hi Mollysmum Welcome to the forum. I have a chocolate too - but much older than yours! Have you tried the training books, as you can't join a course? Sam.
Re: Hello I have and they are brilliant. The main thing about a class is to teach her to be a little more steady in the presence of other dogs. She loves them all, so much so that it is much harder to teach her anything when there are lots of other dogs around. We are getting there, though!
Re: Hello Hi again! Do you have a friend with a nice sensible older dog, who can bring them out to sit and watch while your dog is training? This makes a good start to learning to work with other dogs about, and initially they don't even need to be a Gundog, as all they have to do is sit quietly. (My aging lazy chocolate has been know to be roped in for this cause ) The key to distractions is to build them gradually - classes actually tend to throw the dog in at the deep end a bit, in that respect. Sam.
Re: Hello Hi Mollysmum, all the best people have Chocolates, mine is utterly useless but lovely all the same!
