    Re: Hello

She cried first night but I knew I had to ignore it. It was the kindest thing to do - though the hardest. More crying last night, but less I think. I've crated her a couple of times today wether I needed to or not and she tolerated that. After the family coming to visit over the last couple of days, I'm trying to establish a bit of routine. So tonight beckons.

Oh gosh, the crying is awful, takes firm mettle to weather it!
    We didn't do too well.......
We were advised to separate dexter from us for several short periods the day he arrived ( at 5 months old after 11 hours in a box and 7 hour flight) Er was never going to happen.......he was cuddled all day ::) I also thought I knew better and thought his gated, top of the range room would be preferable to a crate which he had been raised to sleep in... :-[....what did I know.....the crying started almost immediately the minute we said goodnight .....chris and I listened to it for half an hour together.....then chris fell asleep  chris snores,so now I have a snoring husband and a crying puppy  ( have to add a caveat in here to excuse chris he does have a massively stressful job and never displays any stress whatsoever so I never disturb him if he's slipped into the snoring zone!) ....I relocated to the spare room to endure listening to dexter cry some more....after a little while I couldn't bear it any more so I text my mum who is very firm( if a little, old fashioned ) matter of fact and sensible on dog matters.......she would NEVER have gone down to a crying dog.....She rang me straight away...read me the riot act...what was I thinking, get down to that poor dog now,he's had an awful 24 hours,he doesn't know where he is,he doesn't know you .....oh my goodness, she was still talking as I was throwing the phone and making it downstairs in 2 leaps ......I lay all night cuddled with him up on his bean bag ....and to be honest even then he wasn't really happy!
Next morning the pet shop opened at 10 am ,chris was there at 10.01 am to purchase a crate and we did what we were advised to do and what you have done and just put him in it for very short periods through the day......that next night,no problems at all and thankfully we haven't looked back since!
You are right,Now you've got a clear house of visitors ,normal life...as normal as it is with a bundle of lab fun ;D can resume x good luck and enjoy your puppy ,they grow up so quick x

    Re: Hello

Things are improving. Last night just a bit of protesting when I put her to bed in her crate. I got up at 2.00 to pee her, my, but the stars are bright on these cold nights.

She started 'tuning up' at about 4.00. As she had pooed down the far end of the crate the previous 2 nights I thought it only fair to get up to her. I waited outside the study (where her crate is) for a pause. dashed in on the silence then into the garden where she performed. Back to bed. Mild moan from her

She was awake and just sitting in her crate when I went down at 7.00.

Right now she is sprawled out on the bottom stair. It is the only carpeted area in our hall, kitchen, study area we confine her to during the day when we cannot closely supervise her. The bad news is that I wanted to wrap some Stuff for the Advent Calendars and she is blocking my access.

And if that is my only grouse after 4 days with an 8 week old pup I consider myself very lucky.
