Hello everyone! My name is Amy & I just recently got myself a beautiful black Labrador Retriever. He is about 2 1/2 months & he was 8 weeks when I took him home. As a child, I've always wanted a dog but my mom never agreed to it. Now that I am 22 years old, I finally got myself one! I decided to name him Felix. Pretty odd name right? Haha. Never knew that choosing a name for a pup would be that hard! Anyways, I took him home and he met my family and a family dog named Kaiyu who is a tiny Pomeranian. Just about two weeks into being home with me, my poor Felix became excessively itchy and flaking. We gave him a bath in a nice puppy shampoo for itchy dry skin, BUT it didn't seem quite to work. We took him to the vet to check for fleas and ticks but surprisingly, there were no little bugs on him. So, the vet said it's more than likely just the winter weather that is making his skin dry and itchy. We went home and it just did not get any better! It got to the point where parts of his hair started to become bald My boyfriend and I took him back to the vet and they did some skin scrape testings on him for scabies mites, but that came out negative as well. But they highly suspected scabies mites still and put Felix on medication. It's been about almost two weeks and thankfully, Felix's itching has stopped! Wow! Lol. My first pup definitely worried me a lot! All the cleaning and sanitizing process to get rid of scabies mites in our home and on Felix was much work that was worth it! His hair has grown back on most parts of his body & he is a lot more happy and energized! Just about two more weeks before he is off medication and becomes better! Still NO regrets on taking Felix home even though he gave me so much stress in the first month of having him
Re: Hello! Welcome to you and Felix! It's a terrible worry when there's something wrong but it's great that you seemed to identify the cause and that he's so much better now
Re: Hello! Thank you Oberon! & yes, I never ever thought that my first puppy would become so sick! But thankfully, I have a wonderful boyfriend who is very good with taking care of and training dogs! His effort to helping me handle a puppy is much appreciated
