I wonder if this forum can help? We need to find a good kennels for Pongo while we're off in Europe for a week in September. Both the really good kennels that we know locally are full. The other local ones are "OK but...." and we don't really want to leave him there. We also wouldn't want to put him anywhere that we didn't know was good - either because we'd visited or had a recommendation from someone we trust...

But then it struck us that we are going to be driving from South Wales to Dover, and so there might be good kennels close to our route, WHICH FORUM MEMBERS MIGHT KNOW ABOUT AND RECOMMEND. (OK I know that is an obvious thought but it struck us as a brainwave. We are simple souls.)

So.... our route is past Bristol, along the M4, round the M25 and down the M2. We could also detour down to the M3 or down the A34, you get the idea. Do any of you know and use any good kennels near that route, in which case we'd ring them to see if they have any vacancies for a big labrador?

    Any suggestions gratefully received!

You could nip up the M5, go across country to Bromyard (Worcs) and Dealminster Gundogs, kennel dogs. They get a couple of walks in the field a day and a Bonio to go to bed with. The kennels overlook the main gate, so they see plenty of coming and goings. The owners are very understanding and kind, it is where I have my Labs from.

My dog walker also boards the occasional dog. They are treated like family, I can ask if that week is available if you like?

Hi Kate, yes please that would be kind! Pongo can't go to the lovely doggyholls any more because he got a bit amorous with one of the other (male) boarders - Jean can't take the risk again as long as he is un-neutered. So we're back to finding a good place that doesn't mind that he still has boy bits!

Oh er yeah that might be useful mightn't it.... doh.... sorry.

Actually I've contacted the kennels you mentioned and they do have vacancies - the only issue is that they shut at 4pm on the Friday and we wouldn't be able to be there until about 6pm. But if we can get over that issue then they look like a perfect solution so we're going to try that.

If that falls through and they really can't let us pick him up later, then I'll definitely ask you to ask your dog walker (and I'll pm you the dates this time;)). Is your dog walker OK with dogs that are not neutered?

    Thanks Kate, much appreciated!

Rosie (and Pongo sends licks to your pack)

Well Benson is not neutered and she is fine with him :) if the dates don't collide with our week away, I might be able to pick up Pongo for you, and then you could collect him from ours? We were going to leave our 3 at Oaktree, then our dog walker said she was happy for them to stay with her :)

Although they aren't kennels I've found Holidays4dogs brilliant. If you haven't found anywhere it might be a possibility for you.
