My 7 yr old labrador- Oreo, was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago, and we used to take it to the vet for shots. But as to some difficulty I came through in my life when the pandemic struck, I no longer could take him to the vet now like before. I had to find an alternative for my poor thing, he is the only one left for me in my life. I researched it and finally came upon a solution that insulin shots can be given in as in-home insulin kits available in the market. My concern is whether it would be harmful to him. Could anybody help me?
Hi Daniel, welcome to the forum I'm sorry to hear that your Lab is unwell and that it is adding to your financial worries too. Only a vet who can assess Oreo in person is in a responsible position to approve safe treatment for him. However, there are several non-profits who help fund veterinary care for dogs in families experiencing financial hardship - PetFund is one you apply to directly yourself I believe, whilst the Veterinary Care Charitable Fund receives applications from affiliated veterinary clinics on the dog owner's behalf. I'm afraid I'm not an expert on either process - I'm based in the UK. But I wish you luck finding out more, do come back and give us an update on Oreo's progress.
