I am giving my labrador Green lipped muscle, devils claw and glucosamine. He's had glucosamine since he was a puppy, but at 2years old, developed a limp. I read that devils claw and green lipped muscle can help (pain killer and ant inflammatory) He has 500mg of green lipped muscle and 600mg devils claw. My question is will these really help? What else can I give him? He also takes evening primrose oil. Thanks for all help

If he's got a persistent limp I would get him checked by your vet

He was checked by the vet who put him on metacom (I think that's what it was called) and it helped but I believe in natural remedies more and just wanted a little advice

Ally91166 - Metacam is a very strong pain killer/anti inflammatory. You really need to re-visit the vet and find the cause of his pain. Your pup can injure himself even more if he feels better when hes not. My immediate thought from past experience is he might have injured his ACL. I would ask the vet to x-ray to investigate further to help find the root cause. But I am not a Vet and am only saying what I would do. Good luck in getting him healed, I wish you both the best.

Which leg is he limping on? Did your Vet actually observe the limp? When does he limp, during or after exercise? Sometimes, often, it's just a muscle tweak. They are pretty active dogs and it's easy to twist something that will hurt for a few days that reduced and controlled exercise will fix right up. I have never been impressed with Traumeel before but after a recent dog attack my VEt suggested it, saying it works best for acute pain, not chronic pain and it did seem to help this time.

Agree with the others. Pain meds are all very well, but you really need to know the cause. Good luck for your boy.

The vet said it was the right leg and to just give him short lead walks. I thought I could help him along by giving him devils claw/green lipped mussel to help. Now I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing
