I could really use some help and suggestions in training my 3 month old puppy. I have a 3 year old lab and am wondering how I can train the puppy with the 3 year old in the room or do I need to separate them while training the puppy? What realistic expectations should I have? Thanks!

    Hi @byznme

I would train them in separate rooms unless you have a really well trained 3 year old. You can teach some things with mimicry.

But I would not be concentrating on training. I would be focusing on socialisation. And for that you should do it without the older dog. You need your full attention on reading the puppy's body language.

Take the puppy off your property daily on a socialisation trip somewhere, just the two of you.

At home, train the pup. You can put the older dog behind a stairgate and occasionally throw her a treat if she is quiet and waiting nicely. Ignore any noise from her. Long-term, you can train the dog that's not working to lie on a mat and occasionally throw treats at them....
