Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Hi Lynne, puppies love digging, next to chewing it is probably their favourite past time They especially love emptying the contents of the nice big pots we like to have on the patio in the summer. Very annoying, but they do grow out of it in time. In the meantime, the best thing to do is to make a temporary pen in part of your garden where you don't mind the puppy digging. Pippa
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? i guess i will just let it ride the course, thank goodness he will grow out of it, that as answered my question, i am very lucky he as never chewed any thing, so for now, i will let him dig, summer will soon be here, then a re vamp to the garden, thank you so much for your reply
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Make him a sand pit and bury toys and treats in it so he works out the that is the best place to dig He will probably love digging in soft sand and it will distract him from the rest of the garden.
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Riley never really chewed but we wrapped several sacrificial layers of corrugated cardboard round furniture legs when we wanted that piece to have a fighting chance of surviving just in case. Didn't help with the kitchen skirting boards where he did have a little nibble
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Why is he digging? Because he wants to visit his friends in Australia. How do you stop him? Take away his Spade. Seriously though. Digging, ripping up plants, chewing your furniture/shoes etc, are all perfectly normal dog behaviours....It's FUN for them He is only a tiny baby yet and doesn't know what he can and can't do, so it's your job to teach him. Keep an eye on him at all times, don't leave him to his own devices in the garden, correct him with a little "AH AH" or a clap of your hands, then distract him with something he CAN do and praise him highly for doing that. Baby dogs are time consuming and hard work, but if you're on the ball and teach him right from wrong now, you'll have so many fewer problems in the future.
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? hi jules, thank you for reply, i have been very lucky in the house, i am in most of the time, so i am able to keep my eye on him, i have had no damage in the house, i had him crate trained, for the past week i have took him out of the crate, he now sleeps in the kitchen, hes a really good boy in the house, at least its only the garden, i understand that he needs to play, so for now, i will let him have his fun in the garden, i am so lucky to have such a good boy, we love him to bits
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? To make you feel better, here is what Obi did today while we were at work. I like the nice touch of the Kong half buried in the stuffing. We are looking forward to Monday next week when he can go back to day care (following a bout of kennel cough). Not sure if the poor chair will make it till then though, LOL. Good thing we were thinking of getting it re-upholstered.....
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Oh my! Rachael......I bet the air was blue I admire your very philosophical approach....... jac
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Wow - he did a proper job on that one! No messing about!!
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? When I thought it was just the fabric and the stuffing I found it all very amusing but when I realised that he'd also chewed the timber armrest (harder to fix) I was not laughing quite so much. Still, one can't really be cross for long when the wreckage is proudly presented with a huge Labbie smile and a wiggly waggly bottom....
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? h my goodness, i am in shock, how old is he , cant wait to show my son this when he gets in from work omg
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? LOL, he is 13 months. Normally he goes to day care when we are at work but because he's recovering from kennel cough (probably caught at the dog training club where there has been an outbreak) he has to stay home with no contact with other dogs allowed till next week. He had to be alone for a whole work day yesterday for the first time and it was a bit much. Our fault.
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Poor chair Obi ;D ;D I left Charlie for about 5 hours quite a while ago and when I returned he had removed pieces of the parquet flooring. He's much better now and just sleeps, although luckily I work partime so he isn't left for more than 4 hours. You'd be surprised what they can get upto in your absense Helen
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? awh hope he is soon well he must have been bored, poor love, i am luky enough to be able to stay with jasper, have you not tried to crate him ?
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Oh Obi....I imagine if I left Brodick out of his crate for more than an hour with me out of the house my soft furnishings would bite the dust in a terrible way...
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? i must be one lucky mummy, i dont crate jasper, when i am out or bed time i leave him in the kitchen, so far so good,
Re: HELP , why is my puppy digging my garden up??? Obi does have a crate but yesterday we had to be away from the house for 8 hours, and couldn't crate him for that length of time. So we just took our chances, LOL. We should be able to come home at lunch for the rest of the week to check on him though. We did that today and he didn't chew anything illegal
