Thanks Angela - yes we have been plodding on quite happily for the past few months but I felt it was time I came back to the forum. it's amazing how much you end up expecting from your doggie when all you hear is criticism from the public rather than commiserations from fellow puppy owners! I feel better already! She is nearly 6 mths now & when she was weighed 3 weeks ago 18.5kg & bigger than most of the other female labs we meet. I think that's half the problem - because she is so big people think she is older & should know better. I also continue to receive "words of advice" from my neighbours - 2 dogs both pets, walked daily but probably left outside in their concrete dog pen for about 80% of the time with no toys, a manky dog bowl they never wash out & they never wash down/sweep the pen. We have had serious problems with flies over the summer. I feel so sorry for them :( Good news on the other hand - after being without a dog for 10 years my Mum & Dad are getting one - they treat Beulah like a Grandchild & spoil her rotten - they can't decide on a breed. In their words "they're getting on a bit" Dad is 74 Mum is 69 & they both love Labs but Mum is worried about being able to walk it/pulling etc. if dad got ill or something. However she doesn't really like the look of any other dogs!
Sorry for the essay - I have been gone a while! xx

    Welcome home :)

I think greyhounds are lovely dogs for people who don't want to walk loads. I've never had one so can't comment on the challenges of owning a sighthound but all the greyhounds we've met have been very chilled out and gentle, sleep a lot and don't need massive walks. We nearly tried rehoming a greyhound but struggled with getting a rescue dog when we both work.

I'm always amused when I'm offered 'help' from other dog walkers or owners, although it's not often as Chip is so well behaved I count my blessings every day. Although I myself have handled a dog that wasn't mine, we go to a park where I chat with a lovely lady who is tearing her hair out with her scruffy hound because she jumps up at everyone. Now into Autumn she's not so clean and I have gently lowered her to the floor when her paws have lunged over my shoulder. Just as some don't want others to handle their dogs, other walkers also don't want to be jumped up at by those dogs! It's a two way show! Although there is always a way to do it, you wouldn't tell someone how to tell their child off and certainly wouldn't rough handle someone else's child, so why with their dog? And pulling back in a whipping action? No!!!! Silly man!!!
