Hi guys, were new to this site, and a bit unsure as what to say to get started. Well our long awaited black lab is here, about 10 years to be exact!!!. Roscoe is nearly 7 months now and full of trouble! No, joking apart he has completed our family, but my only concern as yet is when I walk him on the green on a retractable lead he eats other dogs poop, how gross!!!! At home in the garden he eats his own unless I'm there straight away to clean it up.can anyone give me any advice,is this normal????Thanks Tracey
Hi Tracey and Roscoe Poo eating is pretty common (mostly other animals' poo but some dogs do eat their own). Here's an article about it with some tips about what to do: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/why-dogs-eat-poop-and-what-you-can-do-about-it/ What was Roscoe's history before he came to live with you?
Hi Tracey and welcome to the forum, from me and my two, Willow and Shadow, who are nearly two years old. I was just about to post a link, but I see Rachael "Lightening Fingers" has got there before me as I was finding it
Hi Rachael and Fiona Yes thanks for that,I won't worry too much now!! We've had Roscoe from 8 weeks from a breeder from the champdogs website, and he's great.had no problems with crate training, and he settled in from day one!!! I think it's helped as I only work part time,so I'm around for him a lot. He's also done well with his clicker training, obviously with no other distractions. Off to work now, thanks for your help!
Hello to you Tracey and Roscoe. There are other owners of poo-eaters about on the forum, hopefully they will give you some advice. My dog Coco only eats cat poo (yuck - I try "leave") and horse poo (I can cope with this).
Hi and welcome. I once had a Rosco too, a lab x springer, named after a character from The Dukes of Hazzard. Now that's really showing my age!
Hi Tracey and Roscoe welcome to the forum from Fred, Annie and me. Have you any photos of Roscoe for us to see?
Hello there and welcome!! My Poppy was a terrible poo eater as a pup. I changed her to raw food, and the poo eating stopped immediately. Not sure if that was coincidence, or a result of her poos becoming harder and drier..
Hi from Holly and me in Monmouth. Poop eating is quite common. Sometimes they grow out of it, other dogs need to be trained out of it.
Hi there, and welcome from me and Lilly. My sister in law's dog was also a poo eater. Happy to say was! I think a combination of a strict pick up immediately regime, along with growing up a bit solved her problem. Which is great as I dog-swap her for holidays and I found it really tough when she was younger! It does take time, so stick with it. Jac
