Hi, I just came across this forum when my Mom Googled 'Hand Injuries' and Dogs. I'm a 10 month old black lab with boundless energy. I'm very well behaved except when I'm not. Looking forward to meeting some of you and helping my Mom and I learn about 'all things Labrador'. This site looks absolutely AMAZING! Hunter
Hi, and welcome from Holly and me in Monmouth, Wales. This site IS amazing. There are so many useful and knowledgeable people.
Welcome to the site Hunter. I hope you love it here and learn a lot from all the experience to be shared.
Hi Hunter and welcome to the forum!!! Sounds like you are doing a great job of Labradorifying the household, starting with the tradition of mauling the humans' extremities to shreds. You don't have to limit yourself to one thing though - at this stage you can begin to introduce Random Stealing of Objects, and also Garden Destruction (if there's a garden sprinkler system of any kind begin with that).
Oh dear....hope nothing serious. These bouncing beasties can be a bit rough! But then turn around and make me laugh like crazy. Can't stay mad at a Labbie! Welcome and you've come to the right place. If only for empathy!
Hi everybody and Hunter and I say 'WOOF' and 'THANKS' for all the welcomes. I think I'm going to do some final research on Halti's and see if that will give my hands a rest. No broken bones (Knock on wood), just muscle strain, overuse and possible tendon issues. Hunter is pretty good at loose leash walking until distractions show up so I'll have to go back to Puppy training 101 and work on 'leave it', among other things. I'm going to look into training with a clicker too. If anybody has any experience with those, I'd welcome your comments/tips etc.
Loads of us clicker train here, myself included. It's great fun and I'd heartily recommend it. Here's some more information to get you started: for more information on this topicThe Forum Recommendshttp://www.thelabradorsite.com/clicker-training-whats-it-all-about/
Hi and welcome from me and Lucan, who's also caused a few finger injuries when lunging after someone else's ball while on the lead!
Hi and welcome from me and Harley. I use a K9 head collar in stimulating environments as I have spinal injuries and can't have Harley pull me. It's my fault as I didn't persist with lead walking when she was little (she's now nearly 3 years old).......we are practising every day and are really good in local places, but not in new places yet!
Thank you. I had a look at the site and jotted down some tips. I just got a clicker and have started with the 'charging your clicker' this afternoon. I read through a bit of the site. One thing that stood out to me was 'upping your game'. Hunter loves doing tricks for a piece of his dog kibble, but for most of the behavioural training he needs more motivation. A little bit of dog kibble for 'come' or 'leave it' just doesn't cut it. Now I have a use for that chicken that has reached its best before date.
