Hello all. I'm Elaine I have two Labradors, Merlin who is nearly ten and Willoughby who will be two the end of June. I've just started gun dog training with Willoughby, just to try something different and have some fun with him. I did obedience training previously which my first two lab girls loved, Merlin hated it so we gave up. We started obedience training with Willoughby but he had a fall, fractured his elbow and now has been diagnosed with ED. So far we have had one individual lesson which we really enjoyed and have been practising heel work and stop whistle. We are following The Gun Dog Club Training Guide, adapting it slightly as he's not a pup, reading anything and everything and watching training videos. Hopefully our trainer will see a big improvement at our next lesson.

I have two Labradors, the first one broke his elbow at 16 weeks and had to have a lot of cage rest and he was 8 months old before he could have normal walks. I did gundog training with him and he loved it, but would run in! I also have a just 2 year old and will be doing gundog training with him when the classes start again in April. Did a bit last year and have had a couple of one to ones, but the wet weather put a stop to that.
Re: Hi from North Yorkshire Hi Elaine, Welcome to the forum,I have Dexter a 17 month old yellow boy,my first dog and 4 legged love of my life ;D ( he is currently sulking because we are going out to dinner and he knows it's curtains for his evening cuddles when he sees me put my high heels on! ;D) We live in Dubai and face a few challenges keeping our working line furry one busy,active and happy but all in all we manage it.training options and facilities are few over here,if I lived in the UK I would have definitely tried Gundog lessons with him...one of the facilities is starting agility classes next week,this is BIG news in Doobs!..we are signed up and good to go! Whereabouts are you in North Yorkshire? My husband is from Tockwith x
Re: Hi from North Yorkshire Hello Elaine, welcome from me, two and a half year old black Labrador Sam and our little Millie ( unknown breed ) We also enjoy our gundog training , Sams steadiness leaves a lot to be desired, but we have a good time and it keeps his brain active too
