Hello and welcome to the forum. I've never had a bitch in season, and am looking forward (hah) to my first in the next few months. It can vary when the first one is, but I believe is normally somewhere between six and twelve months.
Here's an article which may help: http://www.thelabradorsite.com/managing-your-bitch-in-season/

Hi, I too have a beautiful black Labrador Labrador, Cassie, she's 11 months and half way through her first season. Yep, the links posted above are definitely very helpful.

The breeder we got our monster from ...funnily enough also called Bella ...provided us with some Arden Grange dry puppy food and we have stuck to that she loves it and is now on the adult version of the same .

Hi and welcome from me and 3 year old girl, Harley.
Everyone will give different answers on your food question as, like humans, dogs have different tastes, allergies etc. I think it's what you can afford and what your dog likes. Personally I keep away from the cheap food as it has a lot of fillers and isn't very good nutrionally.

Six hours is rather a long time, with no one popping in to give her some playtime or a walk . Could you possibly get someone to do this for you ?

I think that's too long, I would try to get a dog walker to come in at midday. :)

I give carrots and apple to my pup, now 8 months. Apple pips are supposed to be poisonous though.
