My name is Joy and I have a 2yr old Lab/Doberman/Shar-pei mix. I rescued her when she was 8 weeks old. This may sound strange, but the only dogs I've ever owned have been large breed rescues, like Gordy the great dane and Karsie the rott/mastiff mix. I have been told that she has more of a lab temperament, so I have joined here to speak with lab people and get as much info as I can about the breed. I have taken every precaution I know of to make sure that she is a happy and healthy girl. I've socialized her like I would with any dog, trained her with the senstivity warrented a Doberman, avoided Shar-pei temperament issues like the plague, gotten her into sports and retreiving with the best Labs I know, and loved her unconditionally. I've been lurking for a while and learned so much.

Welcome Joy and to your rescue dog. Sounds like you have done lots with her already and you will gain lots of wonderful advice from the very competent dog owners on this forum (I do not include myself!!) although I am trying very hard with my rescue boy - Charlie. Look forward to seeing lots of posts. Helen & Charlie (2 years). :)

Her mom was Lab/Shar-pei and her dad is Lab/Dobe. The guy who owned the parents saved the mom from the side of the highway as a pup. She was too sensitive to the anesthetics so was never spayed. Three years later he brought Murphy into the house and about a week after Murphy was neutered they found out that Tasha was preggers. 8 weeks after the pups were born, I brought Skyler home for a modest adoption fee of $40. All the pups came with a spay/neuter contract and a clause that says that all puppy owners will return pups to him if something happens. He used to breed and show Jack Russels, so he already had a contract in mind. Now, even though it was an oopsie-daisy litter, we all meet up every six months or so.
