Well... I never thought I'd say experience this... but our 10 month old girl, River, is currently being looked after by our vet, after repeating vomiting. An x-ray, ultrasound, and an operation later they removed a tiny green pepper that got stuck in her stomach, and also the equivalent of a human's appendix.

    SIGH!!

No idea where she got it from, I can only think she must have picked it and shoved it down when we were on a walk.

She'll need time to recover from the surgery yesterday, so her 50min walks are out of the question for now, but do any of you people have any tricks and tips to prevent her from picking stuff up from the floor.

I'm genuinely concerned this is going to happen again and I really don't feel comfortable in getting one of those masks that prevents her from picking stuff up.

I feel like I've let her down as her human.

Oh don't feel like that, it seems you love her lots!
These Labradors, they just love to pick up stuff, I'm sure this could happen to many of us :)
I play lots of games with my Cassie who is 2, to try and keep her with me, as she's a bit of a poo eater. It can be hard work but also fun and rewarding, like you I don't want to go down the muzzle route.

That's a good idea. Thanks for the tip, Selina.
I've just had a call from the vet half an hour ago that she's allowed to come home tonight. It's been so incredibly weird not having her here for two days. The impact they have just being here is absolutely unreal.
