I've been putting up shelves today. At one point I was joined by Holly, looking slightly agitated. It took me a while but I finally worked out what was wrong, and it made me very proud of her. While marking out the wall I was using a capable tracer. When it finds metal under the surface it gives off a beep-beep-beep-beep sound. When it finds a cable it gives a continuous beeeeeeep. These are the same as her "recall" and "stop" calls. She was getting agitated because the cable tracer was telling her come, stop, come, stop, come. She had come, she had stopped, and didn't know what else I wanted her to do
Re: Holly and DIY You should be really proud of Holly's response to all the beeping. Just goes to show the benefits of training
Re: Holly and DIY Now if only you could teach her to com, stop, drill that hole, you could sit back and have a beer while she does all the work!

[/quote] It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure that I want her using power tools
Re: Holly and DIY ;D ;D ;D ;D train her to bring you a beer...a much more useful skill than slippers I think... It's great that she is so ingrained with her training tho....darn stupid humans who don't carry treats in their pockets for all the good training responses... ;D ;D
Re: Holly and DIY I thought you might have been going to say that she was agitated because the shelving was slightly crooked Although I'm sure it's not. Interesting about generalising to the beeper and the pattern being important, not the exact tone.
Re: Holly and DIY Very impressive. Pongo reacts to the timer beeping on the cooker. Don't know if this is because it is like his whistle, or because he knows it means there is soon a high chance of something falling on the floor out there. :

When the timer beeps, she jumps up. I think it's because she knows it means I'm going to the kitchen, and she couldn't possibly let me go to the kitchen unassisted. It's dangerous in there, don't you know. I might need assistance from a savage drooling doggy.

Re: Holly and DIY Juno must be a very strange Lab as she doesn't respond to any of those noises - could it be because she hasn't be clicker or whistle trained? Would hate to think my little girl wasn't a real Lab ;D , but she does love water....
Re: Holly and DIY Oh clever Holly! Looking forward to hearing all about your house move on the next Severnside walk over Easter
