Hi, my first post and my first lab! Bentley is now 10 months old and has been doing great until this last week he has took to being destructive when left alone, hes only every on he's owns for a maximum of 3hours and he's been doing this fine ( no cage ) for months now... but this last week I've been coming home to a array of surprises . Cushions moved and chewed doors pushed closed his blanket ripped etc any help or advise Joanne
Welcome @Joanne Ennis from Hattie 10 years and our rescue boy Charlie 6 years. When did you decrate Bentley? I would reinstate the crate so that Bentley has somewhere safe to go when you aren't there. You could give him a frozen filled kong in the crate before you leave. x
Hi @Joanne Ennis and welcome from me and my 19 month old boy Bailey. I found that when I have to leave Bailey on his own he is better in one room rather than having the run of the house - Bailey was only ever in his crate when he was tiny. His chosen room for when we go out is our bedroom - he makes the most of having the whole king size bed to himself while we are out!
When our older Lab was that age, she was always in the utility room if we had to go out (this is also the room she sleeps in). She went through a phase of being a bit destructive - she ate plaster off the walls and chewed part of a door frame. Fortunately it didn’t last long.
Hi Charlie, To be honest Bentley was only every in the crate for a couple of months once he was fully housed trained I removed it. I do leave him with a kong each time I go out. He waits for it and doesn't seemed fazed about me going out. He has the run of the living room and kitchen ( baby gates stops him going upstairs ) he stays in the front room I've also notice that hes sat up at the windows each time I come home, ( regardless of weather I've been out for 1 hour or 3 ) bit worried that he sits there the whole time waiting for me. I might try ,just keeping him in front room ( but that's the room he seems to mess around in when he's home alone . Hopefully just a quick stage that will pass
