Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool OH has just come back from diving in Egypt. The dive center has two dogs, an adopted street dog and a labrador. The street dog has no problem with the heat at all, while the labrador suffers horribly through the summer months.
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool Hi Karen, I didn't read all the posts so someone might have suggested this but my dogs love ice cubes! Also I stick the dogs in the basement were it is cooler when it is in the 90's around here. I am looking for a toy that is strong enough to withstand lab teeth but can be filled with water and frozen. If anyone knows of one that might be a good idea as well. biorus
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool Love the cartoon lol. I filled a water balloon and froze it the other day and gave it to Lola. She thought it was great! She was kicking it around the garden then stopped to lick it and kicked it around again.
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool
The street dog has no problem with the heat at all, while the labrador suffers horribly through the summer months.
There is section in "defence of dogs" about how rapidly street and village dogs adapt (eg the most suitable survive and breed) to the environment they live in.
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool Also keeping the floor outside wet so she can lie down and get her belly wet

Loads of options with fillings!
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool I saw Kate had put a wet flannel on Sam's head to cool him down… very sweet photo!
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool Hahaha.. Yes. My dog hates the heat and just isn't used to it. She goes into the sun, gets boiling and then doesn't seem to have the sense to lie in the shade instead so basically she can't be left unattended outside at all if it's sunny. Ok so that's only for a few days a year.. She totally loves the rain and wind and since that's what we have here almost every day that suits her fine! If it is hot most of her exercise has to be in the river. I'd like to move abroad and was thinking of applying for a job that has come up in Nice but Vespa would be totally miserable so it's not really possible. I was there last week and there were loads of dogs but they all looked unhappy and overheated. I guess it depends on the kind of property/land you can live on.
Re: Hot weather - keeping your lab cool
.... but my dogs love ice cubes! .....
Holly loves ice cubes but is fussy about presentation. If we give them to her by hand she refuses them, if we put them in her water bowl she lifts them out and crunches them. I have no idea why this matters so much to her
