I finally managed to find a spot behind our apartment complex where no one ever goes and it is fenced so I take Rocky there during the day every hour and we have not had any accidents today . I am not confortable going down at night so I am planning to continue puppy pad in balcony .. Too confusing for puppy? Also, now he is not telling me he needs to go, when will that happen . If I miss taking him eight after his nap or food he just goes inside:(

Don't worry, he is just a little baby and it will take him a while to develop the ability to hold on and also to really be motivated to only pee outside :) At the moment his bladder control is minimal.

Peeing is inherently rewarding - the need to pee is uncomfortable and peeing relieves that. When you really need to pee, any pee is a good pee, no matter where that pee happens. So puppies kinda get a self-reward for any peeing. That means we need to make peeing outside hugely rewarding so that it becomes much much better than peeing anywhere else, from the pup's perspective. It's definitely an occasion to be very generous with the high value treats.

Over time, Rocky will start to see your whole home as his bedroom, and that will go a long way towards strongly motivating him to pee outside the house. Dogs do not like to pee in their bedroom or living area. That will just take time though.

In the meantime just keep doing the great job you're doing now and be as vigilant and consistent as you can be with the outside trips :) It will get better!

Oberon is right. It can takes ages for some pups to tell you when they need to go, and there can be accidents 'till 4 months old. Others get it straight away. My friend's pup, Picasso, is clean and dry at 8 weeks! Twiglet is 14 weeks today and still has at least one accident a day. I remember Gypsy was clean and dry at 10 weeks and Tatze at 12 weeks.

The balcony puppy pad will be fine for nights. I have never got up in the night with Twiglet (I'm far too old to lose that much sleep lol) she has a puppy pad near the door now that she's out of the pen. She is dry most nights but uses the pad about 1 night in four now.

Like babies, their bladders mature at very different rates - some are out of nappies soon after 18 months, others are nearly 3 years!

Stick at it, you will get there :)

Thank you for your replies .. It has been difficult but not as much of a struggle as I thought . He is a good boy and taking him to garden outside helpes burning his energy and he sleeps when we come back . he sleeps once we are in so I can work . Amazingly , he is very quiet , never heard him bark even once ! ( definately not complaining) . We went to vet , my daughters day care to meet with all kids and to pet stores in my arms and he was calm .
