    Reached a new low on poo eating: just learned she does it frequently at doggy day care. So I feel I am fighting a losing battle.

    Poor you, not nice at all.

    Would you use a muzzle? I know lots of dogs that have muzzles for various reasons, including to stop them eating stuff they shouldn't, and it's the way humans view muzzles that's the only problem with them really. At least it would stop her doing it when you can't train.

    I don't think you are. Maybe training 'leave it' in this situation will be useful with lots of high value treats for success. I think it's one of the most useful commands to teach a dog. Sorry Jane I can't come up with anything else but I hope that helps xxx :)

    Re: How do I stop poo eating?

    When Poppy was in the worst poo eating phase, my vet told me not to obsess about it too much, and just to make sure my dog was up to date with her worming treatment. As you know, dogs are scavengers and will eat anything remotely approximating to food.. Most dogs seem to grow out of the disgusting poo eating at some point. There is no magic trick to stopping it, I'm afraid, but the tactics that work have been listed on here:

    1. Don't obsess...
    2. ... But be vigilant ::)
    3. Train a good 'leave it'
    4. Keep your puppy up to date with worming treatment
    5. Clear up your puppy's poo as soon as possible
    6. Try raw feeding

    Good luck...

    Yuck. I feel for you. Simba pretty much leaves poo alone, except for a brief phase last winter when digging up the frozen "poo-sicles" and gnawing on them seemed to be great fun....which reminds me, need to get out in the yard and scoop up recent deposits....

    Chepi may grow out of it. My last dog ate dog poo as a puppy but it didn't continue into adulthood. I can't remember how old he was when he stopped.
    Molly snaffles the odd mouthful of horse poo but that's not so bad.

    I'm trying to be more cool about it and discouraging her at the same time. 8) ::)
