I feel a bit of a slob ! I have my mothers old vacuum cleaner, but have wooden floors, downstairs so they just get swept, and I use a mop for the wees !! I also mop my kitchen floor, which gets muddy paws all over it. I sometimes wish I did have OCD, the place would be a lot cleaner !! Maggiexx

Having googled it, I might try the roomba - I'm sure vacuuming kills brain cells!

We have had ours for two or three years now. We have the base model Roomba, but it is the previous model. The new model is better as you don't have to clean the brushes. It actually does a good job with dog fur. If you have wooden floors and a rug then it will tend to wipe off a bit of fluff on the edge of the rug. That's probably the only downside. They work surprisingly well. The more often you use it the better, obviously. If you leave the cleaning for a couple of weeks you are going to have to pull out the big vacuum. I would definitely get another one if ours died. It's made me feel more relaxed about vacuuming too, because if I see fluff I don't feel like it's my problem - it's the Roomba's problem ;D

I have a roomba. It works very well but I mainly unleash it upstairs where it can hoover undisturbed. :D The dogs definitely don't like it but they are not keen on the dyson either. The roomba is a bit limited on how much dust and stuff it can hold before it needs emptying so if you have a lot of dog hair wafting about which I definitely have with four spaniels then it won't be able to cope. :)

If it took care of upstairs for me, that would be something. I think I'll definitely give it a go. I truly hate vacuuming...

Another way of looking at it is, at least black hairs on a hard floor tell you it is time to hoover?

I'm very pleased to report that my boy has cured my OCD. I have a pair of slipper mops that I shove on my feet & slide round the kitchen floor...my son loves doing this too. Gets rid of muddy paw prints, but not the hair - Chip loves to dance with us, gets giddy & sheds more ;D

    Same here don't worry!

I loathe vacuuming too but our Miele is good. I despair of how often the bag needs changing. I also throw a brush round the kitchen and utility to save on bags. The kitchen floor was washed for all our Christmas guests arriving and two days later it looked like I hadn't bothered ::)

I know the feeling. You'd think with a yellow lab you can't notice the fur as much as black or chocolate.

I furminate Dexter a couple of times a week. He's shedding his puppy coat at the minute. Oh my word, he only has to brush past me and its bad!

Thank god it's not just me who hates mopping! I may have to look into those show slippers though. They sound handy for the kitchen :)

Re: how do you cope ?

Here are my thoughts on the problem from one of the few men who do the hoovering!

    1. All dogs moult and Labradors are particularly bad at doing so.
    2. It is a bit late now but people who dislike this trait buy Labradoodles as they shed less hair.
    3. Groom more often using a Furminator and buy the best (Bosch?) hoover for pet hair.
    4. Read this article by a well-known vet http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/peterwedderburn/100027596/moulting-is-every-dog-owners-problem-could-lycra-be-the-solution/and be the first in UK to try the Lycra solution.
    5. Encourage your husband/ partner to do the hoovering!

Encouraging my OH to do the hoovering resulted in my new Miele.
Used it yesterday for the first time - GOSH its powerful.
Will take a bit of practice ;D and I suspect OH won't like it ::)
