Bailey was: 5.9kg at 9 weeks 9.4kg at 12 weeks. The vet said to reduce food slightly so that he stays the correct shape. Bailey's mother and grandmother were both very sleek, athletic looking dogs, I'm hoping Bailey will be like that and not overweight!
nrbolton My best tip is to always weigh out the food, not measure by eye/hand and I've also found the cups supplied by manufacturers difficult to use to get the correct weight (although the cups are useful for weighing food ). I would also advise regular weighing at the vets at the moment to keep an eye on weight gain as bailey certainly gained a lot in 3 weeks. Juno used to gain around 500g a week and she is quite a big girl and now goes somewhere between 24 and 25kg (she is due for a monthly check). It's easier to keep them slim then to have put them on a diet to slim down
Coco was putting on around 1KG/week, at one point 1.5KG. now hes steadied out a bit increading 0.5kg/week. at 4 months hes 12KG but looking slim and perfect around the waist.
9.4kg doesn't soung too big at 12 weeks for a boy. Benson was 10kg at 10 weeks old, and he is strapping show type labrador, so naturally a bigger build than his svelte cousins. He weighs at 22months old a heathly 29kg with a nice tucked waist.
It's always interesting to see how pups vary when it comes to weight gain. For me the important part is not whether it's 0.5kg or 1kg per week but that growth is steady and that they stay trim with a nice waist
Just been to get Murphy weighed for worming....he was exactly 13kg at 17 weeks. Vet said he was perfect size wise with a nice trim waist - glad to know we are doing something right!
murphthesmurf Well done. So much easier to keep a trim waist than have to diet to get one . We called into the vets yesterday as well to pop Juno on the scales and at 14 months old (to the day) she weighed 25.050kg so really pleased that we are maintaining her weight around the 25kg mark, although my OH did comment the other day that he thinks she's looking a bit skinny while I thought she had grown taller
We had an appointment at the Vets for the monthly weigh-in and flea treatment today. Bailey weighed exactly 10kg at (more-or-less) exactly 3 months old. So he's put on 600g in a week. I think that's ok? I reduced his food slightly following the vet's advice last week.
Pongo was putting on about 1kg per week at Bailey's age..... so yes, as long as his shape looks ok (waist, and you can feel his ribs) then I'd say it's OK!
They are all different but 600g sounds good to me,(Juno used to gain around 500g a week) particularly as the vet was a little unhappy with his gain. If you can check him again in a couple of weeks so you can see that his gain is reasonably consistent
Mossy is 5.5kg at 12 weeks, but she's 50% springer spaniel so will be smaller than a Labrador I guess.
My 5 month old English boy is weighing in at about 40 lbs. Dad is 100+ and mom is about 80 so I'm hoping he will be a BIG boy
Bruin's weight 12.4kilos @ 12.5weeks 13.2kilos @ 13weeks 14.4kilos @ 14weeks 16.2kilos today @ 15weeks. He is raw fed. I think I am going to have a monster? Both parents were working dogs and mum was actually quite small. All puppies were pretty even in size bitches bit smaller than the dogs. Ps vet did think he looked a month older than he is when I took him for his 2nd vaccination but he is definately only 15weeks today!
Really pleased with Juno's weight. At the vets today she weighed 24.8kg so her weight is staying in the 24.5kg to 25kg range , so at least something is going to plan
Lola was 20kg at 6 months interesting looking at the graph that initially she was right at the bottom of the range of weights on there, but is now somewhere in the middle of the pack. Still looking in lovely shape with a nice waist and tuck up
Ziggy was 2.5kg at 6 weeks and 5.1kg at 10 weeks. And I think all his weight is in his long legs! He's from working stock and both parents are quite small dogs so we'll see how big he turns out to be.
Sorry everyone.... I know it's been AGES since I updated that graph, I'll try to get round to it in the next few days! Pongo is delighted to see there are a few more Monster Dogs like him (39kg for heaven's sake...).
Sophie had a broken leg at 10 weeks. The breeder raised horses, and before I picked her up, she was in the field with the horses and got stepped on. I fell in love with her right away. My vet put a cast on her, and she's healed, though she has a bit of a limp. I wonder if some of time down with a broken leg hurt her growth. 12 weeks - 14 lbs (6kg) 13 weeks - 16 lbs (7kg) 14 weeks - 18 lbs (8kg) 15 weeks - 20 lbs (9kg) 16 weeks - 22 lbs (10kg) 17 weeks - 24 lbs (10.8kg) She seems to be on a good weight gain of 2 lbs each week, so I guess she is going to be a smaller dog. She is from hunting stock. Surgery to repair the leg would have been $1800. Since I'm not going to use her in competitions, it doesn't matter. DOB: 5/18/15
Oh, your poor puppy! Did the breeder not have her checked by a vet before you collected her? It sounds like she was very lucky to survive; horses could do a whole lot worse. What does your vet say about the damage the constant limping is going to do to her joints? I would have thought it would have a significant impact over time, which could lead to even greater complications (and costs) in the long-run. She is quite a small girl, but my Shadow was the same weight at 17 weeks. Both of mine are quite small, although taller than their parents. Welcome to the forum, by the way
