Happy to help!! I don't think there is any reason to be annoyed with yourself, you have been running with the baton for a long time, and without your efforts, I doubt we would have so many weigh points. My aim is to keep weighing Bear weekly (more for nostalgic purposes, than a need to be so frequent), so hopefully this will keep me on track with doing that. I'm sure at some stage in the future, I will falter Yes Bear is in yellow, I am also playing around to see how I can best show those dogs who have several weigh points over time (might be a seperate graph yet or it might go nowhere)
Here are 4 separate graphs (why 4, well because 1 graph was just way overcrowded). The graph includes any dog that I have at least 4 data points for, it is in no order, I simply did it in order of where the data appears in my spreadsheet. So why did I do these graphs, well firstly it was to say thank you for anyone who had shared more than 4 weights of their puppy in the first 52 weeks (please let me know if I have missed anyone). Secondly, it shows how each puppy changed over time, without having to go back through the thread to find the weights for that dog (it's interesting to note that those on the top or bottom of the graph at a particular week, may change their position over time, so it demonstrates that the biggest or smallest puppy at 8 weeks is not necessarily going to equal the biggest or smallest dog). Lastly, just for fun, it allows for owners with young puppies to play the guessing game "If my puppy weighs x now, what did other puppies that weighed x end up weighing". Obviously the lines just join data points for each dog, so they just make it easier to visualize (so for example if one dog has a weight at 16 weeks, but another dog doesn't, where the second dogs line is at 16 weeks may not have been the weight the dog was at 16 weeks, if that makes sense). Anyway, I am no expert at excel, so I am sure I did these graphs the hardest way possible, so I am not suggesting I will be able to keep up with these four graphs in the future (I just wanted to share what I was playing around with, should it be of interest to anyone). Thanks, Cameron
Glad you guys found the graphs interesting. Well Bear turned 13 weeks old and we decided to take him back to puppy preschool (not because he failed) as when he first went he was the youngest and we can't take him to further training until he is 16 weeks, so it was a good opportunity for him to socialise with another group of puppies. This means we had another official vet weigh in, and he is now 14.6kg. Here is an updated graph with Sam's weight added.
Just tried to measure Bear's height (as best someone can measure a 13 week old Labrador who has decided the tape measure is a toy). I got about 40-41cm at the Withers, he has grown dramatically the last few weeks
Another week gone, Bear is now 14 weeks old and he has reached 43cm tall and weighed in at the vets at 16.8kg My brother-in-law saw him today (he has not seen him for two weeks), and was shocked at how much he had grown in such a short time (he is definitely in a growth phase at the moment). Here is an updated graph: Cheers, Cameron
Hehe Are yours field or the show type? Many people think axel is a field type as he is pretty thin and narrow but he is the show type. Not sure when he will start looking like it though I tried to measure his height but he wiggles a lot. He's 22.5 to 23.5 inches at the withers at the moment.
Definitely field type, not true Lab shapes at all. But I love my little whippets anyway My friend's dog, Alfie, is also a field-bred Lab. He looked like a greyhound (he's very tall) until he was around three or four, when he suddenly muscled up and became a lot more manly. Shadow is a hard dog to get weight on - you can look at the charts above and see how he was constantly at the bottom end of the scale. He loves eating, it just doesn't "stick" very well! He did start bulking up with muscle once he'd stopped growing, and he's quite buff, just on a skinny frame
Yes, we certainly do love them no matter what. Their unique personalities make them one of a kind Ok so Axel may bulk up in the next couple years then. We shall see. His half brother from a previous litter was narrow as well until he hit 12 months old and now is starting to bulk up. I had last seen him at 10 months old then again at 12 months and if I didn't know it was him I would not have guessed they were the same dog! That being said. His half brother was one of the biggest in the litter and Axel was the smallest so I don't know if I can really compare them. They have the same dad though! Your shadow must have a very high metabolism! Which is really great as labs can get chunky pretty easily from what I've read
I wouldn't say that. He gets a lot of exercise which burns a lot of it off, but the main issue is that if I feed him too much, it - er - passes through too quickly!
Bramble is now 6.5 months old, her bottom is taller than her front end right now, and madam weighs 25.1 kg. Think she will start to slow down now. Although didn't I say that at the last weigh in? Bramble and Casper...
Bear is now 16 weeks old, just had his third injection (excited at being able to go anywhere with him shortly). I forgot to post last weeks weight, last week he weighed 18kg's and this week at 16 weeks 20.1kg The vet decided to add some calcium supplements for a few weeks, just to be safe, as he is growing really quickly at the moment Here is an updated graph, thank you everyone for the extra data
