We do about an hour in the morning and half an hour when I come home in the evening, then 4 or 5 little round the block wanders for wees and poos during the day as and when they ask for one. Only problem with living in a flat you have to be prepared to take them out for walks on demand really and that isn't so bad we certainly get some fresh air every day.

    3 or 4 "carrys" a day.

Cant wait untill Bouncer has his second jabs then will be able to walk him properly.

    He is getting heavy.

Tatze (18 months) gets one long walk before lunch - about an hour an a half in woods, by rivers or reservoirs and a short lead walk before her evening meal. Twice a week we meet her best friend Zaba - those are her favourite by far.

Gypsy gets three walks, one round streets, one round shops and shopping centres etc, one free run. These add up to half an hour as she's only 20 weeks old. She is going to be a Guide Dog if she passes all her exams.

Twice a week they free run together but most of Gypsy's free runs are on her own as her recall to hand will have to be 100% when she has a blind owner, so we are working hard on it without Tatze to help her. Once I am confident she's got it we'll go for more free runs together as they both love it.

Me - I just dog walk all day and LOVE it!!

    ;D

If by chance Gypsy failed her exams, would you be able to keep her? Would you want to keep her or have another guide dog puppy?

If they don't make it as Guide Dogs they are often re-trained as Buddy Dogs or other dogs for the disabled, all of whose jobs are much easier than guiding. If they don't do that they are offered back to Puppy Walkers.

If it happened I would be totally flumoxed and conflicted. This is what I want to do with my retirement (Puppy Walking) and I love it. But they don't allow pups to go to multiple dog households, so taking one back would be the end of my new life. But then again, how could I refuse??

I just hope she passes with flying colours.

I walk my lab whom just turned 16 months old on Saturday quite a lot. I time my walks and like to record them with mapmywalk app. I don't know the average of our walk times, during the week it's often for an hour when I get home from work. On the weekend, sometimes there's multiple walks. My longest walk that I can remember was 2 hours. There's been a few or so 110 minute walks. Gotta keep her occupied and she loves it. I don't think it's too much for her, not when she is kept in the crate during the day. When we take her to daycare, the walk isn't quite as long, maybe a half hour a day during the week.

It is all becoming clear! I walk Rolo for an on lead stroll twice a day for about 20 mins (he is only 15 weeks) we play football in the garden a couple of times a day. Up to today I haven't been doing much training but Rolo is so hyper when we are at home and reading all of these posts I see why. I don't know of anywhere to take Rolo off lead that is my problem. Will ask some local dog owners.

Pongo (11 months) gets one walk a day.... very rarely two walks. His shortest walk is a mile - up and down hill, off lead through woodland and field - about half an hour or so. His longest walks are about three or four miles.

In addition he runs around our (big, hilly) garden most days helping us do things... most days unless the weather is really foul.

I feel like I walk my dog much more than most of the people in my neighborhood. If you add duration to the mix, I almost can guarantee I do. She is a labrador retriever! She needs it when she's been in her crate while I've been at work.

I walk with Piper (11 months) and Buca (9 years) forty minutes in the mornings, on leash. Piper gets a midday walk. Varies from 30 minutes to an hour. May be on leash or off. Then twe all go for an hour in the late afternoon. Often off leash at the beach. Buca meanders around. Piper races and chases with other dogs or finds crab legs to snack on. Or swims. Seems she's going to be a year round water lover. Even yesterday when it was at zero degrees.

Bob (4months) gets about 20 minutes off lead in our local woods after I've dropped my little boy off at school. Sometimes I take him with me again after I've picked up my son and we have another 15/20 minutes run around in the woods. I do a bit of lead walking round town as well off and on so he can practise his heel walking. But it's mostly off lead with us. Weekends we go to the beach quite a bit and let him have about 20 minutes running around.

I walk my adult dogs for about 30 minutes in the morning, then they have a bit of play in the garden when we are back for our lunch break & then they have about 40-50 minutes of nice walk, often combined with swimming in the evening. Ellie is allowed her first walk on Tuesday - we'll be sticking to 5 minutes rule so it will be a while till she joins B & S on walkies :)

We walk both dogs for 30-40 mins training in the morning...then they have a hour lunchtime, and Benson has another 45 - hour walk afternoon/early evening walk. They often hoolie around the fields by our house, Casper often takes himself off for impromptu walks :) Late night walk about 5 - 10 mins to have a wee :) :)

i take grace up to the horses with me, and all off lead, we can be out most of the day, and exercise can and does include riding beside me, 2-4 miles, beach, playing chase with my cousins dog, ball lobbing, and swimming in the summer. she comes back knackered every day, and on work days, i do long hours so she gets a 30 minute run on the 3/4 days i work and 20 mins garden ball play with my sister, and thats enough to get her through till my days off. i always feel bad on my work days but i guess my days off make up for it!

Gosh! This is an old thread - it was started 2 years ago!

I do like hearing what people do with their dogs though. :)

Charlie doesn't get more than 50% extra exercise on the days I'm not at work, compared to the days I'm at work - this is to avoid him being a 'weekend cowboy' and injuring himself.

I try to keep his 'normal' exercise to a minimum of 2 hours but make sure this is a pretty active 2 hours. Typically, on a work day he'll get a hour on lead with the dog walker, power walking. An hour off lead training quite hard with me - I fit this in most days. And then another 30 minutes gentle on/off lead. He'll get a few games, 5 mins training in the garden in between.

At the weekend, he'll get more - up to 3 hours or so.
