How soon to expect a poo?

    Apologies for another poo thread....

Monty has had a sickness bug this week, nothing too serious, a quick trip to the vets and 24 hr starvation, he's on the mend though still a bit subdued. He now hasn't had a poo for nearly 48 hours, which isn't that surprising considering the last time he would have really held down any food was Tuesday night.

He was sick 10 times between 1am Wednesday, and 6.30pm Wednesday, bringing up the little bits of food he had within 30 minutes. Trip to the vet Wed evening, and she said no food until he hadn't been sick for 24 hours. Fortunately this was the case by last night, so a small meal of chicken and pasta last night in two sittings, and then scrambled egg for breakfast this morning with a handful of kibble.

When should I expect a poo do you think? I know that his stomach would have been completely empty, but am thinking last nights dinner (6.30pm ish) should be appearing pretty soon. It was only a sickness bug, no diarrhea, he's also had plenty of water (tuna flavoured!) and some re-hydration sachets so has been drinking ok (he was on the point of becoming dehydrated by Wednesday night apparently)

I know the minute I post this he'll probably go outside and do a steaming pile :poop:

I think the rule of thumb is 12 hrs from mouth to anus. But perhaps in Monty's case, might take a little longer given what he's been through. Maybe a bit more water will help it along? Dehydration can cause constipation.

Poor boy. Hope he is back to normal soon.

Thanks,@MF yes, maybe I'll try adding a few chunks of tuna into the water bowl to entice him. He hasn't drunk as much today as he did yesterday, despite the heat, so maybe he's a bit bunged up.

ha, typical - just about to start mowing the lawn and he produces quite a disgusting poo - a bit orangey, some liquid, some solid, greasy looking (sorry :puke:) but I'll go with the 'better out than in' philosophy.
