Hello everyone First of all thank you so much!!... for the support and help you provided when I had my doubts about my lab's temperament. Now please help me with how to train him to ask politely when he wants to play. As I had mentioned in my previous conversation he barks and jumps on me, which @samanthajones explained me that he wants to play with you. And also mentioned that you need to teach him to ask you politely. Just in case you did not read about my doubt in previous conversation...the thing is.... When I am sitting he would run around like one zoomy and then bark at me n bite me! Sometimes if I stop him he would bark back(that scared me and also made me sad!) Samantha said he wants to play with you but does not know how to ask politely...... Please share some tricks how can make him do that... Eagerly waiting for suggestions
Hi @JennyIndia I posted on your other post about how I did it with Bailey. Good luck https://thelabradorforum.com/thread...up-barks-and-tries-to-bite.20931/#post-321943
Basically, if you respond to him in any way when he is barking and biting (this means even if you look at him or tell him "no") then you are reinforcing him (rewarding him) for doing it - he is winning your attention. So you need to ignore him completely when he is like this. My puppy would bark at me for attention. I started to leave the room when she did. Just got up, turned my back and walked away the second she barked, and wherever I was. It was inconvenient in the short term - sometimes she would do it when I was working or preparing dinner, so I had to leave that for a while - but she quickly got the idea that barking at me would result in the opposite of what she was after. Don't forget to be proactive and reward your puppy when he is being calm and quiet, too. Giving him lots of praise for the behaviours you do like means they're more likely to happen again in the future.
Yes. Keir barks when I'm preparing his food. So, for every woof I walk away from his food preparation area, as soon as he's quiet I step back. He's learning fast that quiet = quicker meals, but still forgets himself occasionally A good way for a pup to ask you to play is to bring you a toy, so - if you play when he does this he'll quickly start to ask in that way .
