Hi All, I took Huckle to the vets yesterday for his final injection and as the nurse went to check him he got very nearly and bite and she said she was very concerned by his behaviour and it wasn't normal for a 12 week old pup. I did explain that Huckle was uneasy in the car and he gets stressed out during the journey (around 20 mins)and we were out of routine as I had all the kids with me so he just needed time out to calm down (when he gets like this at home it is normally when we are outside after playtime when he is over excited, I stop play and then take him inside, if needed I pop him in his crate for a few minutes) I though that his behaviour was normal but am I wrong? He is fine with new people and my families dogs and the only other time he does get a bit snarly is when he doesnt want to stop doing something (if he is chewing my boots whilst I walk and I move him off them!) But he soon calms down. Should I be worried? Sorry for long winded message but the vets comments did concern me.
Hi, sounds like normal puppy behaviour to me. Your vet nurse sees tons of puppies so I would be more concerned about her behaviour than Huckle's if she is suggesting you should be concerned. He's a baby a tiny baby what does she expect? Don't worry he's fine. xx
100% normal. Vets know about dogs medically - they are not always the best advisors behaviour-wise. Here is an excellent article - http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-puppies-biting/
I've no where near the experience with puppies as @Boogie but I agree completely with this. I recently took my large for nine months, socially confident and over friendly puppy (get the picture?!!) who wants to start a party wherever she goes to see vet nurse who said she wished her 2yr old lab was as well behaved as Cassie -- I ended up explaining about the +R training class I went to and advised her to visit this forum! Unsettling for you though, to have remarks like that made from a professional.
