My dog doesn't weigh what he should at 7 months. He's a Labrador and is only 15.5 kilos (33 pounds). I feed him twice a day, 200 gms per serving. Is the quantity okay, or should I bump it up a little? For snacks, he gets: 10-12 tiny milk biscuits, half a dental stick, half of a large carrot, 2 slices of apple, half of a medium cucumber.
Hi @Prarthna Sarkar we can't tell from your description whether or not he is underweight, just right, or overweight. Dogs are individuals. They don't all conform to an average. What does your vet say? Perhaps get the vet to explain how to determine whether your dog is too thin or too fat. I would ditch the milk biscuits. They are not good for the dog's teeth. Raw carrot is basically roughage. Unless the cell walls are broken down by cooking, then the dog will not put on weight from eating carrot. If you search through this folder on the site, you will find many threads on the weighty issue of determining whether your dog needs to eat more, less or continue what you are doing. I think there have been quite a few threads on your precise question over the last week or so. I don't wish to fob you off You have a genuine concern. But please read through the various threads over the last week or so. You will soon appreciate that we would need more information to answer your question. And more importantly you will be able to answer your question yourself. But by all means if you then have any specific questions, then fire away.
My 4yo adult female Labrador weighs only 21kg. All dogs are different. There is no one ‘weight’ which a dog ‘should’ be....
Without seeing it I don’t think your dog sounds particularly underweight. Buddy is around 5 months old and weighs 13.5 kilos and he was the biggest of his litter.
