We have Ella on the back seat using a crash tested car harness (sleepy pod clicket). We also have our toddler on the back seat in a car seat. I do agree that the crash tested car crate is the best option but we can't afford to give up the boot space. Just as others have said that they can't afford to give up a back seat, you have to come up with the most practical solution for your family. I'd always look for something secure and crash tested though. Much safer for the dog and the humans in the car.
