Ignore them all! I'm fed up with having my OH's family sticking their oar in concerning how we have brought up Inca. They thought we were mad when we said we were using positive methods but I think he have proved our point on that. However they never stop telling us how what we should be feeding her (including milk!) and berating us for wanting to get her spayed. You feel like you are fighting a lonely battle but luckily there are lots of other sensible people on the forum!

Next time they suggest using aversive methods on your dog ask if they are in favour of bringing back corporal punishment in schools. It's the same kind of thing and similarly outdated.

Oh goodness, anyone getting very annoyed at a 10 week old pup for having accidents or playing with water doesn't know what puppies are supposed to be like. No amount of gun dog training is going to suddenly increase the size of your puppy's bladder or bladder control!! How frustrating.

Thanks guys. I think it made me feel worse because I'm tired coz iv been up in Yorkshire for one night and that's a lot of time in the car! She thinks she knows everything about animals coz she's just started her vet nurse training. I'm annoyed because I'm 99% sure she won't have been taking Maisie out for wee's regularly like she knows she should. And I feel so protective and defensive over them lol. The only reason she was looking after them is because my husband Charlie asked her to so he could go fishing and obviously I wasn't there. When it's the other way round and he's away I just don't arrange to do things that I can't take the dogs with me. Like next weekend he's away fishing fri/sat/sun, and so I'm taking Maisie to puppy class first and then murphy to adolescents class. And then il enjoy chilling with them all weekend and be able to put Maisie down so will take her for a little walk. I'm not saying he's not good with them coz he is. I'm just grumpy today lol x

It's hard enough to train a dog without others sticking their noses in, and really difficult if your partner has a different idea of what training a dog is all about.

My hubby is a marvellous man in every way, but the early days of Simba's journey with us were difficult, both in terms of dealing with Simba's lack of training and the issues that came along with that (collar sensitivity, jumping up, no manners at all, resource guarding, etc etc) and working out how we were going to deal with it. Hubby's default dog training would definitely fall at times under the "intimidation" camp. Especially in situations where a dog was being aggressive towards him, or me. Which happened a few times with Simba. But eventually he told me to keep on with what I was doing, as he saw that it was working and the other wasn't. Bless his heart, right?

So that is what we have done. Hubby mainly stays out of the training, but he does try to do as I ask whenever he does attempt anything, so that's good. ::)
