Recently we have had a terrible news story related to dogs in my province. 200 dogs were rescued from a property by the Alberta Animal Rescue Society, ALL of them in absolutely wretched condition. The AARS said that all of the dogs, rated on their "body condition" scale they use rated a 1 out of 5, it was the worst case they have ever come across. Here's a link to the story...and full warning, the first picture shown is bad enough, if you scroll through the rest they are heartbreaking.

The woman has sued to get her dogs back. Seriously. And it turns out she has had dogs seized from her before, 80 from a puppy mill in the province next to us, another 40 when she was living up north....

....there is a petition going around to institute a lifetime ban on owning animals for this woman. Duh. I can't understand why she isn't in jail, myself. It's ridiculous....

I'm afraid I can't quite bring myself to read it. It's outrageous and I'm constantly amazed what people get away with.

I've seen on Facebook that a US jockey is in trouble for allegedly giving a racehorse an electric shock to spur it on to win. How this is unacceptable while e-collar training is prevalent confuses me no end.

    All quite, quite sad :(

I chickened out from reading it too.

I simply cannot understand why you would want a dog, if you didn't love them. They do have many disadvantages, but for me the sheer joy of having a dog massively outweighs the disadvantages.

    I don't understand, either.

It's truly disgusting what some people do. They need to be brought to justice for this kind of cruelty.

But I also don't understand the reasoning behind WHY they continue to collect dogs only to treat them like this. I've read sad stories in the past where people have truly loved their dogs, might have been a bit of a rescue centre and then fell on hard times so they weren't able to look after them, and didn't want to lose them - not acceptable, but understandable.

THIS, I don't understand at all! There is clearly no love here. But nor can it be a money-making enterprise if the dogs are all so poorly cared for!

People like this clearly have no empathy.

Oh Lisa, this is indeed heart breaking , and sadly replicated on our side of the pond too . I fear that until the punishment fits the crime , it will keep happening, those poor dear dogs :'(

    It's horrific isn't it!

There was a story going back last year about a woman from where I live (Bristol) who left her boxer in her house to starve to death. I can't remember if she got prison time or not but her punishment was ridiculous, hardly anything for what suffering she put that dog through.

The worst part about it though was that when the ex partner found out she had moved out he offered to take on the dog but the woman told him it had been rehomed, when she knew full well it was locked in her house starving to death :(

Ok so I was nearLy in tears worrying about 2 geese that didn't seem to be keeping up with what looked like a massive migration across the skies this morning,so there is no way I can bring myself to read this ....
It's just so heartbreaking and there should be stiff prison sentences for these inhumane acts against defenseless animals, any animals x
