long story short. Puppy was delayed going out because she was delayed with jabs. Then wasn't allowed out because of ongoing diarrhea! Then had diagnosis of giardia so was allowed out again. Had the best day on the beach then had a message late in the day from the vet to say be careful with hygiene as campylobacter is now present in further results!! She will be back Monday for more treatment. Because my son had leukemia I'm now so paranoid! He is just 6 months off treatment so immune system is only just back to full force! Arrggghh I just want to relax and enjoy her!
Hey, I know it feels like Groundhog Day with not being able to take your puppy out, she will get there eventually and you won't remember this rubbish stage, I'm sorry to hear about your son and can imagine how worried you are. Relax and try and enjoy her as much as possible as she will be grown soon and you will miss the little moments Be kind to yourself xx
Most important now is your son....your puppy will be fine. Dont worry about that. Things will fall into place very nicely.....just dont worry!
You are obviously frustrated and upset by all this. Totally understandable. You just need a break. It will come. x
Sorry you're having such a hard time and I can see why you're worried about contact between puppy and your son. Do hope things improve for you soon.
Sorry you're not having such a good time. Things will improve and soon you'll be enjoying your gorgeous little lady
Very frustrating! And I'm sure having the worry with your son's health makes it so much worse. Puppies sometimes just go through bouts of illness one after another, but then their immune system improves enough that things get better. You will get through this, and you will have a wonderful pet who will be a great companion to your son. In the meantime, come on here and vent when you need to!
When I got Harley we had problems with her tummy for months so do know how you feel. Ours was frustrating as couldn't find a problem for quite a while - turned out to be wheat/grain intolerant. Hopefully the treatment will get her sorted quickly. Hope your son continues to improve x
I can only imagine your frustration. But you made it through your son's illness (huge congratulations, I hope he stays cancer-free) and you'll get through the puppy illness stage too. I hope you've got somebody to stay at home with pup for half a day so that you can go out and just relax
Thanks everyone. I just thought when we had the giardia diagnosis we were done. She's 13 weeks tomorrow and getting too heavy to carry. I also look after my brothers little boy.
On a Monday and I was so looking forward to be able to take them for a walk together. It's hard to keep them apart in the house. I gues I could walk her somewhere there would be no other dogs?!
Poor you. That must be such a worry. Maybe look on it that the puppy doesn't really don't need a walk at this stage and just take the kids out for an hour or so instead?
Oh I'm so sorry @knees78 , with everything else n your plate too, this must seem like the end of the rope. Don't worry your pup will be fine, your vet is on the case! My friends little boy who is now 8 yrs old has just been through two operations on a cancerous brain tumour and 18 months of chemotherapy - he is now in remission (but can't say its beaten until he is 25 yrs old apparently) and back to playing rugby I am very happy to say, but they have two labs that are now nearly two years old and during Jimmy's chemo they had various tummy issues with both pups at different times but all three came out of the other side unscathed. You will get there, keep us updated with all things and feel free to vent if needed x
Oh that is tough, you must be feeling frustrated and miserable just now. Lots of the experienced lab parents have given reassurance, so I'm sure they're right, and you will be rewarded with a fun, lovely dog for your family. Hopefully you'll also feel better after getting some answers from your vet tomorrow; fingers crossed that's the case Hang in there!
Thanks everyone. She will have 7-14 days of antibiotics depending how she gets on. The repeat the poo test to see if its all gone. No doggy play dates until then although I think we may meet up with my mother in laws dog as she is desperate for them to meet. I feel as it is only spread by poo contact they are pretty safe. She has fitted into our family brilliantly. We are not the luckiest bunch! Haha
Fingers crossed it is only for 7 days then @knees78 - do what you feel is right for your pup no matter how desperate others are for a play date with your pup. Glad she has fitted in brilliantly with your family, that is the main thing x
