Re: I need more sleep
I think Mags made the point I was going to mention. If you give breakfast very soon after getting up, then is your pup just acting as your alarm clock? We had a bit of an issue with this with Lilly. We "manage" it enough for it not to be a problem now. My strategy would be to extend breakfast time. Go for the *I am up but you aren't getting de-crated until you are quiet* approach. And make sure you have breakfast or something before you feed Molly. Feed her when you feel you want to, probably at least half hour after getting up. Then she may learn that getting up does not equal breakfast. Just my thoughts. Lilly mostly comes through to us around 6am. She is allowed up on the bed and will snooze away......until the very moment I stretch, or maybe move the duvet, or stick my foot out - then, she is up and waiting.....for breakfast (if no alarm) or walk (if the alarm is on = work day) . OH could be up and about and it makes no difference. I am "the trigger".
We were having the same problem in our house and it was getting beyond a joke. I don't ask for much but I love my sleep and a lie in at the weekend. Not a half 5 wake up call on a Sunday. But I searched about crying on the forum and Jacqui, I honestly can't thank you enough for what you wrote. It's only been about 4 days and this morning I got to sleep in until 8am!! Seems my fiancé and I were the trigger. Our neighbour may like us a bit more too :-X Thank you!
Re: I need more sleep Yey Paige, that's great! I've tried everything to stop the 5am wake-up ! I've discovered that the only way to get any sort of sleep after 5am is to let Maisie (11 weeks) out at 4am. She then wakes again at about 6am and I'm ignoring her until 7am! I'm still not getting that much sleep after the 4am get up, but we do seem to be making headway in teaching her to stay put til 7am! Well, that's the plan anyway
Re: I need more sleep Ahh, I remember those early mornings with Dexter letting him out. All I remember was telling myself 'act boring, act boring, act boring' ha ha. We'll have to keep each other updated on how we're doing. We'll get there one day :

Re: I need more sleep This might sound silly, but after I got really dark curtains so that the room was much darker even when the sun came up, Shadow was a bit more inclined to have a bit of a lie in. Granted, she sleeps on my bed, but I don't know which is worse...a puppy crying in another room or one jumping on you and sticking a cold nose in your ear. Either way, you can't sleep! Good luck, I hope you can get some sleep soon!
