I will be on night 3 tonight with Watson, I go to bed around 8:30 (please do not judge I have chronic insomnia, I have all my life) he comes with me, hubby takes him out to pee at 11, then I have taken him out when he has gotten restless -the first night it was restless -around 3 the second night it was twice once at 1 the second around 3:30. All times he did something.

I am wondering though -would he just go back to sleep if I left him, should I be leaving him to do this? I am a VERY light sleeper and since he came to us I have had almost no sleep because I am waiting for him to move lol -I am not sure when other than there seems to be a 4 hour rule with a 8 week old.

Thanks -I am over due for a bit of sleep!

Every pup is different. Mine seemed to last 4 hours crated at night and gradually extended longer during the next few weeks. Keep at it, it will get better.

    Don't feel judged at all....it's a late night if I see 9pm!
How is he sleeping in the room with you? I mean,is he in a crate,on his bed or on your bed?
With him being so young personally I would be taking him out as soon as he's restless ....it's tiring but it won't be for long as you can start extending straight away,he's growing quickly and his bladder is too!

Oban needed out, really needed, twice a night at first, for about a month. He pee'd and he pooped. Then he only needed out once a night. The once a night to pee got later and later till it was early morning, till by 4.5 months he could go all night. A puppy who is producing in the middle of the night I think needs to go out.

We did not crate. The crate was in a big pen with the crate door open. A few times we were too late and he chose a place on the kitchen floor well away from his crate, or wherever he was sleeping (often just the bare floor) to potty.

Insomnia? Heck, I see your insomnia and raise you winter at -30C or colder and deep, deep snow. Yes, Oban was a winter puppy. LOL. :)

Snowshoe -yikes! last night was...better for me, at least when I was asleep it was not with "one eye open" I think I was relaxed enough to sleep for a couple hours straight each time.
Watson sleeps in our room in a home made ex pen of sorts. We live in a dolls house ;) so though he has a crate, and we are working on him with it -he seems to like it thus far, it is in the only room big enough to hold it, and he will sleep beside me :)
