she was a rescue. I was offered a yellow girl,or chocolate brother. Mom black, but dad yellow. I got a pickture of dad. The puppy is now 6 months. 21.5 inches and 45 lbs. her hair is about 2 inches long on her trunk. Short on legs n a bit feathered on tail. Her coloring is correct for a dark yellow. Still some puppy hair at top of ears. Is there anyone out there in lab world who has a longer coat dog.

Hi and welcome to the forum :) Well done on providing a good home for a doggie in need!

If you can work out how to upload a pic of your girl that'd be great. I wouldn't say that Labradors have a really short coat. Their coat is not supposed to be like a Beagle coat, or a Jack Russell coat... It is a bit longer than that. Sometimes even with a bit of a wave to it, especially down the back. And it not unusual to have a bit of feathering on the underside of the tail.

So sorry I didn't say Hi. Belle n I are in international falls Minnesota. I will try to get one of my kids to post a picture of belle. I'm catching a lot of static because Belle has too much hair. She has been compared to a cross between a lab n a golden. I hoped to hear if anyone has this issue also. Thanks

Attached is a link to a recent article from Pippa regarding the identification of purebred dogs which you may find useful. What do you mean about Belle having to much hair? Labradors do tend to be hairy dogs and many of them shed alot.

Maybe you are used to seeing field bred Labs which often have a shorter, single coat? A faulty coat by show standards. My boy is show bred and the hair on his back is easily at least 2 inches long. Under the part you can see, the guard hairs, he has masses of thick lint. Oh, sorry, it's not lint till it sheds out on my floors, which it's doing now. If that's the part you're getting static from, well, they shed. Brush, brush and more brushing helps, I do it outside.

A cross between a Lab and a GR? That would be a very nice cross, IMO, both lovely dogs.

Would love to see a picture of your dog! She sounds lovely! It's funny how the genes work, my pooch is a Lab/Newfie cross but he sure doesn't have too much Newfie in his looks. It is great you have given her a home!
