Hi All, My name is Nicola and I live in Buckinghamshire. We sadly lost our beautiful black lab Bella last June at 13 years old to cancer. :'( Home has not been the same without her so after agreeing that we wouldn't consider another breed we are now awaiting our new Labrador puppy, yet to be born!! The Pups are due at the end of April so we are hoping to bring another little girl home towards the end of June. We are all very excited albeit a little nervous about having a puppy again (it seems so long ago and I am sure I have forgotten all the madness)! We will be looking to this site for lots of help, advice & guidance. I look forward to talking with you all and sharing our exciting journey! Nicola x
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi Nicola - Welcome to the forum! Exciting puppy times ahead Jac and Lilly (black girl, 4 yrs old this May)
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi Nicola and welcome!! So sorry you lost your beautiful Bella. Sounds like you have done a lot of planning with your new pup I bet you can't wait till the end of April!!
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi Nicola! Welcome - and so sorry for your loss! We lost Gunner, our black lab, suddenly last November. We weren't going to get another dog just because it was so heartbreaking - but we broke down and a chocolate lab in January - lots of fun (and not so fun) puppy things going on at our house! I'm sure you'll have some of the same fun!!
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi Nicola, You must have missed your lovely Bella a lot,I know your new pup will bring you lots of fun, laughs and chaos ;D to your home. We have Dexter an 18 month old yellow boy ,our first dog and we live in Dubai.this is a great place to read up and ask questions as your prepare for your pups arrival x
Re: I would like to introduce myself Thank you all for your replies. It's going to be great being part of a great forum. We lost Bella quite sudden too, 6 weeks from diagnosis of Kidney cancer to being put to sleep but we don't think she suffered too much before we made the heartbreaking decision. :'( Bella was a beautiful, calm dog in the end but we did make LOTS of mistakes with her training as she was our first dog and she was an absolute nightmare for the first couple of years, bad recall, pulling on the lead, jumping up at everybody we met, so we are trying to prepare properly this time round! I have just received a copy of Pippa's Total Recall and have the Happy Puppy guide on pre order! Does any one find that their children hamper their training success? I have 2 girls almost 7 & 10 who i suspect will want to help Mummy train the pup! I have told them they must be using the right commands at the correct times but you know what kids are like and I fear this may cause some confusion! I am also interested in Raw Feeding or the possibility of combining Kibble with raw so would welcome anyone's views, experiences on this. Looking forward to speaking with more members Nicola x
Re: I would like to introduce myself Yay, managed to upload a picture of Bella as my avatar so you can all see how beautiful she was! I am not sure how to add pictures in a message? Any help would be appreciated as i will need to share plenty of pics of our new pup once we get her. ;D Thanks
Re: I would like to introduce myself I think with the age your children are they might make a good job of helping you train your new puppy, let them read the books etc before she comes
Re: I would like to introduce myself What a beautiful girl. To put pics in a post you need to upload them first to a photo hosting site like Flickr or Photobucket. Do you have an account on a site like that?
Re: I would like to introduce myself Here's a thread about how to post photos using Flickr http://www.thelabradorforum.com/index.php?topic=1903.0
Re: I would like to introduce myself image by nicolamorris0208, on Flickr Thanks Rachael I have managed to upload from Flickr. Watch this space for the zillions of puppy photos I will be posting in the coming months. He he.
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi and a warm welcome from me and my dogs , Sam and Millie Lovely photo of your dear girl , they stay with us always , a new puppy will bring much fun and joy
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hello from me too. Lovely girl and you must miss her terribly. Woohoo though. New puppy on the way! Black girl, Lady, here aged 4.
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi welcome from me and Meg who is a yellow lab, 14 next month. You must be so excited getting a lovely pup. Don't know what I'll do when Meg is no longer with me, don't want to think about that. Am a carer for 91 year old father and she's so good with him. Think I will go down rescue route but like I say not for a lot longer I hope. Bella was a beautiful girl, so intelligent looking. Jen
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi and welcome Bella - fitting name for a pretty girl sorry for your loss Exciting times ahead though . My nephew comes over to my house a lot and even though he is only 4, I have taught him some of the basic commands to teach Harley . It has been a real success and my nephew loves being able to 'boss' Harley around ;D
Re: I would like to introduce myself Welcome. I just love old dogs with white muzzles and the calm and gentle way they regard the world. I'm just over the border from you in Oxfordshire.
Re: I would like to introduce myself Hi and welcome from us, Hattie 6 years and our rescue boy Charlie 3 years. Wow Bella was a beautiful girl, I am so sorry you lost her :'( I am sure your puppy will help ease the pain xx
