Hi and welcome. I play a game with my girl on walks with balls (she loves balls!). I throw one as far as I can then whilst she has gone to get it I hide the other one. When she comes back I say 'where the ball'. She then hunts to find the ball. This gives her a chance to run, but then also uses her brain to sniff out and find the other ball. We started playing this game when she started straying further than I would like and now she constantly checks what I'm doing incase I hide a ball when she's not looking. Sometimes I hide a ball, walk away then say 'Harley, where's the ball' and point in the direction I left it. Might be worth trying if he likes sniffing to find things.

Oh dear Zac is 10 months now and training I thought established has gone to pot.He is chasing off to play with other dogs and will not recall until he's ready,is pulling on lead ,is very strong, and jumping at people who will carry treats for their dogs in the hand. He has about 90 mins free running and 30 mins lead walking daily and is on a raw diet as recommended by Vet I'm going out earlier and earlier to avoid hassle but this is not the answer I know. I've never had this problem before and Zac is my tenth Lab but the first one I have had as a single dog. I will go back to basic training again but hes fine in the privacy of the garden or when no distraction presents itself. Have read your article on this and will persevere but just need to let off steam.

Hi @Gwenda This is a very common problem , the age when they become more confident and " try it on " ;) They are all so different , some can be a shock to the system :) Back to basics for sure :)

Ah, it sounds so familiar. I was so proud of my recall, thought nothing could break it. Then adolescence struck. Wow. Back to the beginning is the only way. It won't take as long to work through the process as last time, but you will have to do a huge amount more proofing to different distractions and stimuli. Good luck and let us know how you get on :)

Thanks for support Snowbunny -read your article and will persevere. Spring urges dont help either or this wind -tail tucked under ,back hunched going in ever larger circles as fast as possible. Threatened him with the rescue centre today when he ran off again. Love him too much to do that and he knows it.Will post again.

Hehe, I'm always telling mine that I'm going to take them back to France to live in outdoor kennels with their brothers. Normally when they're pushing me off the sofa to get into the comfiest spot :D

I remember spring time from last year. Ah, the fun they had rolling in or chowing down on all the small animals and birds that had died over the winter and were uncovered as the snow melted....

We are at the same stage with 'Kira' now 6 months, starting to find her feet and going 'deaf'.
High value treats and plenty of check ins, hide and seek in an area with not much scent and no distractions.
Got make yourself more interesting than anything else, but one thing in our favour Labs love food.
