Well.... yesterday was the big day, we took Mabel to her first ever home boarding while we are up in Yorkshire for our son's wedding. Despite the lady being absolutely lovely, with two beautiful yellow labs and living in the most beautiful countryside I had this sinking feeling in my stomach. The kind of feeling I had when my children started school. I shouldn't have worried I've received half a dozen photos this morning of Mabel playing, she's slept well and apparently is on good form. Which I have a feeling means she's in very high spirits. I can now relax a bit. These dogs of ours certainly take our hearts.
Not silly at all! I hate leaving my two, and stress even if someone takes them on a ten minute walk for me. I can't help but think of worst case scenarios. I may need to leave them for a week or so late next year and I'm already thinking of where they're going to stay. I think I'll end up bringing them back to England because there are far more - and far better - options there than we have here for boarding. I'll undoubtedly be asking everyone on here to recommend places! I'm glad you can settle down a bit now and know she's happy. Wishing your son all the best for his wedding.
I think part of the distress is we are secretly just slightly miffed that our dogs do so well without us. Well I am. Glad she did so well and you found a place you can rely on.
Nothing to feel silly about. I know how I felt when I had to leave Juno in June when we had to come to UK for funeral. Only person I could even think about leaving her with was Rosanne, our trainer
Don't feel silly I think we all feel the same. When we go away all I can think about wherever I am in the world is when I can go home to see Hattie & Charlie as I miss them so much. xxx
Ah I can imagine how you feel,I've never had to board Dexter so fat and I hope that remains the case. Mabel sounds like she is having a blast and I hope you did too at the Wedding? x
Happy new year all, wedding went well. Such a beautiful day. Mabel was super pleased to see me last night, which I was very relieved about. . She had settled really well during her stay and absolutely loved the other two labs. Apparently she was very polite and incredibly well behaved. Very very proud. I'll definitely use the service again especially as I have a hip replacement in Feb, I'll probably send Mabel for a week.
So pleased that all went well and that Mabel was pleased to see you - as if she wouldn't be even if she was relaxed in her temporary home. She is a good girl and I'm sure she learnt quite a lot from being with 2 other Labs for a few days. You will be able to plan for your operation now knowing that Mabel will be fine while you recover for the first week or so. Wish I was closer because then she could spend some time with me and Juno on some days
MaccieD how kind of you. That's really thoughtful Mabel and Juno would love that. I've just booked her in Holidays4dogs for the first 8 days after surgery. OH thought 15 days would be much more practical. I seriously can't bear the thought of that. It's going to be very interesting crutches and a 14 month old choccie lab. I thought of you and Juno when I was out this afternoon Mabel has done nothing but huge Hoolie bum tucks through muddy puddles, I couldn't stop laughing. The sheer joy of movement.
Pilatelover know what you mean about being away from her but can also see where OH is coming from. So hard to practical sometimes. I'm sure that Mabel will be absolutely fine when she comes home after your op, they seem to know when they can't jump around or over us. Juno was brilliant when I was having so much trouble with my knee even when we only managed a short walk down the road and that was very slow. Interestingly Juno walked very delicately around all muddy puddles on our walk this morning but she did see to be very quiet and hardly wandered away from me, still I'm sure one day with out mad muddy puddle hoolies won't hurt. Really pleased to hear that Mabel enjoyed hers this morning
